The interview and medical

Got a quick question. Do you need to get a new medical for the interview. We didn't get another one before filing the AOS paperwork since our vaccination records were checked as complete on the DS-3205 or whatever we had. Basically, we never sent in an I-693, we just used what the civil surgeon gave us. However, now that our interview is scheduled, and the paperwork says to bring an I-693 if not already submitted. So, do we really have to go through the medical with a civil surgeon again?

so long as the DS-3025 is complete or is marked as may be eligible for a blanket waiver then you are ok with just supplying a copy of it for AOS.

To be on the safe side locate the nearest civil surgeon and get him/her to transcribe the vaccination sheet. It will be giving to you in a sealed envelope.

That is a form letter. It is sent to everyone. If they needed an I-693 from you, you would have most likely been sent an RFE for one already. You are not required to get a new medical if adjusting from a K-1 when your medical is less than a year old. If your DS-3025 was marked as complete, then you did not require anymore vaccinations either. You did not/do not need to see a civil surgeon and get an I-693 at this point. They have your medical records from the panel physician in your file. Bring along a copy of your DS-3025 along with everything else you sent in, including originals for the important documents like birth and marriage certificates, etc.

Agreed. Get the vaccines ONLY transcribed beforehand... we got, I suppose, an in-person RFE at our interview for transcribed vaccine records.

You don't need a new medical for interview. You CAN get RFE'd at the interview but you also might not. I wouldn't waste your time or money unless they ask you for one at the interview.

I guess Kristin has given you a living example of what can happen. The ball is squarely in your court...you can either pay an extra $25 bucks to get the vaccination sheet transcribed into the I-693 or take the risk & attend the interview without one.

$25? That's best case scenario. I was quoted over $600 at one doc (yes for JUST the transcription, it was also the medical fee but they didn't lower for "just" the transcription). Others have paid more like $100. Some have been forced to do TB skin tests, some forced to do entire new medicals. RFE's at the interview aren't the end of the world and in fact i would prefer that to a regular RFE 'cause the IO will tell you EXACTLY what they want, not ambiguous.

The only "risk" is getting an RFE for a transcription. They'll call a doc, go in to get the transcription, mail it and be approved. It's not a "risk" of denial or anything. I would save the money. In all likelihood they'll be fine.

appreciate the advice, especially from Kristen. That's what I needed to hear. I called a civil surgeon here in Honolulu and the dumbass receptionist keeps telling me that we'll need to get the TB and all that ####### done, but what else would you expect. I think I'll call around and see who will do the transcription only.

well good luck with that then :) if you find one that will just do the transcription and will do it for the right price like $25 then you should post the name and address so others can use them too

It clearly states in the I-485 and I-693 instructions that if the medical was done within a year only a vaccination supplement is needed, and you only need to see a civil surgeon for an I-693 vaccination transcription if your DS-3025 was not properly completed.

I am not sure why someone who had all the required vaccinations at the time their medical was done would be told at the interview to go to a civil surgeon and have them transcribed to an I-693. It doesn't make much sense, but we give USCIS what they ask for.

I would personally wait until I received an RFE for a transcription at the interview because it is more likely you would not need the I-693 and would save a hassle and money. Going without the I-693 is not a risk of denial or anything. IF an RFE was given for that, then it would not take that long to deal with the hassle and get it done, and the approval would not be delayed for long.

Call every civil surgeon on the list if you have to... I think I called something like 35 people. Most were quoting me around $150 - $200 and some were offering the full medical. I was shocked to find something in Los Angeles for $25. and relieved.
