http://inmigracion.a...a-Americana.htm

Is anyone familiar with the FORMATO AUTORIZACIÓN PERMISO DE SALIDA DEL PAÍS PARA MENORES DE EDAD? My wife will need permission from her ex for the two children to leave the country. We are not sure how to answer questions 3 and 5. #3 asks for the "Propósito de viaje del menor", Do we say to live in the US? To study in the US? Or what? This leads to the concern with question 5: "Fecha de regreso o entrada al país del menor". We don't know when or even if the kids will return to Colombia, as the idea is to live in the United States. I certainly don't want to lie about anything on this form, but we also want it written so the father will sign it giving permission.

Any experience with this? Or ideas?

Thanks,

Charles

Charlos,

That authorization form is just a sample given by the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and it's not the only form you have to use. Many notaries will have their own form and all that is needed is for both parents to show up, show their IDs and have the parent who is not traveling with the children sign it. It can't be more than 30 days old before the travel date, so keep that in mind because it's very important. Also, the children will need a new authorization form every time they fly back to Colombia and want to return to the US until they're 18 years old.

I would just skip using that sample form (FORMATO AUTORIZACIÓN PERMISO DE SALIDA DEL PAÍS PARA MENORES DE EDAD) because it seems that every field has to be filled out and you really won't have a set date on when they'll go back to Colombia, if ever. Like I said, every notary will have their own form, which makes it easier anyway.

Diana

Thanks to both of you for the responses. As an added bonus, I just received all six letters from USCIS (sent between Sept. 16 and Oct. 16) at the same time here in Colombia! One is an RFE that should be simple to resolve. Dios es bueno. ;-)

New question. This one is kind of jumping the gun a bit. This is assuming all goes well with NVC and we get an interview, and assuming the interview goes well. The embassy in Bogota says on their website that the visa will not be issued the same day, but will be sent by DHL to the address we list on-line. I know how to enter the site, but the problem is we are hoping to travel back to the US together. My wife does not live anywhere near Bogota, so we hoped to wait in Bogota until the visa is issued and then travel to the US. I'm not finding any info anywhere on the timeline from interview date to visa issuance date for the Bogota embassy. Anyone know?

Nueva pregunta. Alguien sabe?
