So the big transition happened this weekend. Those of us that had access USA checking accounts in Canada and the US stayed with RBC, the US RBC clients went to PNC bank.

We were assigned new account numbers and were to get new checks, and visa debit cards.

I got my new PIN but still haven't received my new debit card or checks. I can log on to Royal Bank, but I can't log on RBC USA account, and my accounts have been 'unlinked'.

All the money is in the US account right now, I can't log on, my accounts are no longer linked, so I can't even use my Canadian interact card to withdraw cash from an ATM!!

Not a happy RBC customer right now. I've been on hold for 30 minutes trying to get things fixed.

Any one else having issues?

I recieved my bank card a few weeks ago and I just logged onto the website for the first time a few minutes ago. It took me a minute to figure out where to select my Canadian account (from the US site), and it seems that I payment that I made on Friday using my old bank card has not yet been posted to my account. I still haven't tried to use my bank card so that will be another adventure!! I will make sure I have another means of payment when I first try it.....just in case.

I received a big package from RBC a few weeks ago with my new account numbers and my new debit card. I had to call in last month to verify my mailing address.

Our accounts aren't being moved over to PNC it doesn't look like:

As of 6:00 pm ET on Fri, 17 Feb, we will begin to transfer your existing US personal accounts to RBC's new US banking operation, RBC Bank (Georgia).

The paperwork said that there would be limited availability of funds over the long weekend. I hadn't actually looked at any of the paperwork until you asked, so I didn't post a warning here.

There may be issues getting a hold of people today because of Family Day up here in a few provinces and President's Day down there.

Yep! I had issues... My husband was stuck in Vegas without a room and I couldn't use my card. I am still in Canada but I have been using his address, whoops!

He told me I had a bunch of stuff from the bank there and I said not to worry about it... Oh well... I guess I will be having him send me a courier ASAP!

So wait...if you use RBC in Canada you can access it in the States? Does that include credit?? I don't have an RBC account but am wondering if I should have opened an account there before I left...

Yes, you sign up for what is called Access USA checking. You get a Canadian account with an interact card and a US visa debit card and US checks. You can transfer between Canada and the US accounts. (handy as all get out for those in our kind of situation)

We didn't receive anything. Either here or in Calgary. All I got two weeks ago was a PIN for the new debit card.

I tried to call RBC before the weekend, but I was put on hold so much and for so long, I didn't get anywhere.

When I try to log on to online banking it kicks me out and gives me a message; Either your account has been blocked, or you are using the wrong log on information.

The website does say that the old checks will work until new ones are issued.

What I'm really worried about is my Tax Refund is to be direct deposited in to the US account and I still haven't gotten it. I hope it won't be floating around in financial limbo!

I'm almost 80% sure my post office is responsible. Why would I get a PIN letter and no debit or checks? The other 20% is we fell between the cracks somewhere at RBC.

I've had so many issues with our post office here, it's unbelievable. (last week my order from Disney came tore all to hell and all the DVDs but one missing. Torn up envelopes with nothing in them.. etc so on.)

I guess I'll start calling at 8am tomorrow and sit here until I reach someone.

Ooh. Would it be possible to open an RBC account in Canada after moving? I have a line of credit with Canada Trust and thought if I could somehow get access to that from the US, it may help us with getting a house, since I have awesome credit in Canada. I don't mean to hijack your thread, it is just kinda funny as my husband and I were discussing this today and I thought, I wonder if my Canadian credit score would help us at all!

Does anyone know if I have to re-set an automatic bill payment up under the new account number? Went online today and it's showing as an auto pay in my bills. I thought I read somewhere in the info package that automatic payments did have to be changed. OR would that be only if the biller is drawing from the account using the old account number and not when I'm submitting payment?

No worry about hijacking my thread lol I'm a big supporter of RBC for everyone in the situation we all are in.

Yes, RBC will use your Canadian credit history for mortgages, auto loans and credit cards. And you can open an account online outside of Canada. You will have to fill out some forms, make copies of your IDs and send it in. (I have decent credit but I'm self-employed and a student, no bank will give credit to me; so for the past year we've had to use my husband's Canadian credit with RBC)

Even though RBC no longer has physical banks in the US, you can use any ATM and RBC waives the ATM charge and they will refund other bank's ATM fee four times a month. (you have to request it) They now have a new thing that you can use an app on a smart phone, a scanner and PC or mail checks to be deposited in to either account. (I'm sure there's going to be a hold put on the checks)

Another reason we went with RBC is Canadian banks are the most stable in the world. (They weren't eligible for the TARP bailout and even if they were, RBC didn't need it.) We fall under Canadian banking laws, which are still regulated. No need to worry if our bank is going to go out of business over night.

Yes, you have to change your online bill pay only if you used auto debit with the visa debit card. Not if it was set up through the RBC website.(you have to change the card number and expiration date)

On another note, I finally got a hold of someone at RBC the rep said my debit card was mailed on Feb 13th. I did get it in the mail today. He did tell me that the old checks will continue to work until I get new ones. My direct deposit will be deposited into my account.

They will continue to keep the old account and the new account 'linked' for the next three months so all their clients have time to change everything over. He said the web site still has glitches and that's why my log in wasn't working yesterday. If it is still not working by Thursday he said to call back.

I'm ecstatic I can get to my money now! lol :star:

fyi, while Royal Bank of Canada is of course a Canadian bank, RBC Bank USA is *not* a Canadian bank and falls completely under US/FDIC laws, not Canadian laws. It is simply owned by Royal Bank of Canada and allows for some convenient electronic transfers between the two and also allows one to use Canadian credit history (and is now entirely devoted to canadian clients working/living in the US). But putting your stateside money in RBC Bank USA is not any safer than using any other US based bank.
