civil documents to NVC: originals or photocopies+originals

I am submitting a IV packet to NVC (DS-230 and civil documents). It is not clear if they require "originals" or "originals and photocopies"). http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

Please help to figure it out.

NVC must have either the

originals or

certified (stamped) copies from your government

birth cert

marriage cert

divorce cert

police

military

AND you make a copy of all of them and send the copies too so they will give your originals or your certified copies back at the interview

To be on a safe side, submit one set of originals (or certified copies if originals are unavailable) AND one full set of just plain copies - just put the whole package through a copy machine, including the cover sheet with the bar code. They will keep all the copies on file and give you back the originals at the interview. If you are not sending in originals, but rather submit copies of a document, bring the original to the interview - they will look at it and say, "Ok, thanks, we'll keep the copy you submitted". That's it!

On the set of originals, you can attach a post-it saying "ORIGINALS". And on the copy set attach one saying "COPIES". That's what we did and it all went very smooth.

I sent the Originals (in a cover sheet -saying originals) along with Copies with a sticky saying Copies.
