Co-sponsor question (age and health)

We have just received our NOA2 (Yay!). I am now preparing to send the copy of the packet, affidavit of support, etc. to my fiancee.

I am a full-time graduate student and my uncle and aunt have agreed to be our sponsors. They are retired and in their 70s. Their assets are above the poverty line. My uncle has advanced lung cancer. We are worried that their age and my uncle's health will be an issue in the eyes of the government. If the co-sponsor passed away before the 10 years (which, unfortunately, my uncle likely will) what will happen?

I have a cousin and other uncle/aunt that are also willing to be sponsors (both of my parents are not able to be sponsors). They are both younger, still working, and in better health but we are not as close to them as my other uncle/aunt.

Thoughts?

Thank you in advance

Ashley

Nothing. Your sponsor doesn't give you money. In fact, the I-134 isn't enforceable anyway. So, looking ahead to the Adjustment of Status phase, you would be the main sponsor. Your uncle could be co-sponsor. Once the GC is granted, then it doesn't matter anyway unless your husband tries to get welfare, and you'd have to pay it back first as the main sponsor. Any sponsor could get hit by a bus, or lose their job, or a number of things.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Cheers Harpa,

What would happen if my sponsor was no longer able to be my sponsor??

Thanks for your help.

Tom and Ashley

Not sure what you mean. If a co-sponsor can sign the papers at the appropriate time what happens after that is not important. Your fiancee/spouse will ALWAYS be your "sponsor" the other person would be a co-sponsor
