Do approved petitions always go to NVC before being sent abroad?

As I mentioned in an earlier thread, we received the email about NOA2 approval this past Tuesday, the day after mailing in a letter to change personal information and consulate location. I called USCIS immediately and then NVC, and was told not to worry and to call them again once we received the NOA2 in the mail.

I got it Saturday, and plan to call them Monday, but the letter says it was forwarded to the consulate. To make changes now, it says I have to file I-824, which has a listed fee of $405 on the USCIS website. $405 to forward a package? That's more than the petition costs to begin with!

Yes, it always goes through NVC, even if your NOA2 says it's sent to the Consulate.

Yes, it always goes through NVC, even if your NOA2 says it's sent to the Consulate.

Correct. Despite the misleading wording on the NOA2, all approved petitions go to NVC from whence they are forwarded onward to the consulate. If you need to redirect the petition to a different consulate, NVC is the place to intercept it. Start calling Monday as you planned. :thumbs:

Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)
