In a move perhaps aimed toward the demise of Social Security the GOP House decided to continue the de-funding of the Social Security program by cutting contributions people make to the plan by 1/3.

Cutting the only source of funding that Social Security relies on will endanger many elderly people, perhaps causing them to have to live in refrigerator boxes or decide between eating and buying medication.

The Democrat controlled Senate immediately approved the the plan to de-fund Social Security despite bi-partisan opposition to taking money from the elderly and disabled and despite expert opinion that we need to INCREASE funding to Social Security in order to avoid a future collapse of the plan.

President Obama was quick to praise the plan and pledged to sign it into law as soon as possible.

The only reason the welfare wagon hasn't rolled off the cliff, yet, is because they keep poking holes in the tires. Sooner, or later, gravity is going to win.

As a 30 year old I would accept a full refund of all the social security payments (plus interest) that I have made for the past 12+ years and then invest it myself.

(If you are over 40, I don't think you'd be ahead by this)

It is an insurance program, not an investment program. You can't go to your auto insurance carrier, and say, "I haven't been in an accident for the last ten years, so refund all my premiums plus interest, and I will self-insure from here on out."

There, fixed it. Let us call it what it really is, a ponzi scheme.
