I have been reading posts and checked out the CADMV driver's license info page. It appears that he just has to bring in his passport with the i-94 stamp on it, but from posts I've been reading here, that doesn't appear to be the case. Any clarifications would be appreciated. xo (F)

I did that with mine. Your I-94, if I'm not mistaken, should be valid for 60 days if you apply for a driver's license. My I-94 was about to expire so I wasn't allowed. Just wait for your EAD or Green Card. You need proof that you are a legal resident in California, and that it won't expire in 60 days. Trust me, it was annoying.. but nothing I could do about it.
