I am new to this site and very lost and confused on everything that needs to be done. I met my husband on line over a year ago we got engaged and I went to Nigeria in Dec to see him. We got married there so his family could be part of the wedding and we plan to re marry here so my family will be included. Now I find out that this may have been the wrong thing to do since we have several things against us. I am alot older than him and since we married on the first visit I was told we would probably be turned down. and of course when it rains it pours I was told if I make a second visit within the next 9 months it would look better which we both agreed I would but unfortunetly now it doesnt look like I will be able to due to family problems that have arose here. We are thinking of hiring a lawyer will this make any difference. We havent filed anything yet I have completed the I130 and I am waiting for his docs to send with it so we are really at the very beginning of everythings. Any input would be so greatly appreicated... Thanks

Welcome to VJ...I to am older than my husband by seven years and we also married on our first visit. I did go again seven months later for another visit. My husband was approved this past December for his Visa. You will read some approval stories as well as denial stories. Sometimes a spouse or fiance will visit numerous times and still get denied and sometimes visit only once and get approved. If you know what your red flags are, just make sure that your husband is ready to answer the questions regarding those red flags. Make sure that you have plenty of evidence to back your relationship ie. chat logs, phone records, pics with you and your husband as well as the two of you with family and friends. Get letters from friends and family verifying the bona fides of your relationship. Make sure you fill our your paperwork properly preventing a RFE. I dont think that you will need a lawyer. A lawyer will not make a difference for the red flags that you have, he/she will just be an added expense. The paperwork is not that difficult. If you just read the instructions and send the documents that are required, you should do just fine. As long as you fill the paperwork properly, have the evidence that you will need, you put the rest into Gods hands.

I also agree with Princess and favored...You will also read on VJ varying opinions on what documents to send in with your I-130, but since this is Lagos, Nigeria we are speaking of, I believe front loading your application with anything and EVERYTHING regarding your relationship helps very much.

And welcome to VJ!

Yes to all that was said. Read read and research. A year ago I was planning my first trip to Nigeria to go meet and marry. We had already dated 21 months online before we meet face to face.

This VJ website is a God given blessing. I didnt even start compiling information and evidence until after we got married May 3, 2011 I had no idea all this was needed. "Bonda fide evidence of a marriage" are you kidding me. I too am much older 21 years older. I stayed in nigeria 6 months (wasnt planned). That really is our only red flag but as a lawyer friend said time served will trump any red flag of age.

I have yet to file because been waiting to get a job so er have no AOS issues and i will have enough time in job before we get to the AOS (Affidavit of support). We do not want to have a co-sponsor.

So all this being said read the guidelines for your CR1/IR1 Visa petition. And NO you did not make a mistake getting married your 1st, 2nd or 3rd visit no matter. What really counts is

1. Time spent together

2. Relationships with family and friends. Pictures and affidavits are also helpful (especially from mom. I and my husband mother are same age. .

3. Doing things married couples do: finiamces having joinyt accounts, lease agreement, car loan. mortgage.

4. the phone, IM, Email logs just make sure you do something daily to show you are communicating.

Remember you are going to prove yourself innocent because they think you are a scam, fraud. At least you have to think like that so you need all balls in your court and your arsenal full of evidence.

I am like Ayo820 frontloading meaning all your evidence is revealed upfront because baby about time it makes its long journey to the Embassy and the CO (Interviewer a decision I believe has already been made) so you want to present any and all things.

At this point like emails and IM's a log reacord of times and dates is good. Maybe some email examples. Like my facebook emails between me and my husband. The samples i did month to month of about 1 to 3 on a page with a desription at top saying what was the general talk that month. That sample of emails was 45 pages. Mow the actual whole emails is 795 pages. That will be with us on interview day. Just in case Mr or Miss. CO says (what did you talk about on July 10th 2010. See what I mean.

So keep good records because they really want to see the before , during and after the wedding communication.

Keep in touch on these pages, update timelines when you have information. And just walk through the chats. The things that grab your attention no matter what country click "watch this topic".

Goodness sorry I am so long winded. Just happy to be typing on a computer instead of phone. We are all here for you and remember no question is to simple or dumb. You would be amazed what people ask and you are so glad.

God Bless.

Thank you everyone for the information it is great to have a place to go to ask people who understand what we are going thru. I would love to go back to Nigeria to be with him but I just ended up with custody of my 4 granddaughters and they say it will be at least 9 months before they can go back to thier parents. Should I delay filing the I 130 until I am able to go back to be with him. Also on the I130 on line 15 is that his employer or my employer that goes on that line. Thanks again for everything
