Good morning all!!

Exciting news!! We just got our NOA2!!!!!!! It came in at 06:30AM, but I'm in Botswana. NOA1 was February 7 @ CSC (received Feb 3). Keeping the February filers' NOA2s coming!

***I did put a service request in earlier this week--My current address is foreign (Botswana) and I wanted to change it to my permanent US address for when the NOA2 arrived. It's not possible to change a foreign address to US on the online system. I called the 1-800 number a few weeks ago and USCIS told me I had to send in a letter via post (how 18th century!). So I did that and also scanned a copy to that CSC follow-up email, but got no confirmation of receipt and my address wasn't updated online. I called the USCIS 1-800 number again this Tuesday because I am leaving my current address on Friday and requested a service request because I was afraid we would receive our NOA2 to this address. The guy on the phone was very helpful, gave me a confirmation code and all. I'm not sure if this expedited our case, especially since I've heard that it takes 15 days for service requests to go through.****

a big THANK YOU to the VJ community. I don't post often, but I promise I read what you write everyday and it has helped a lot. I wish you all the best of luck in receiving your NOAs soon!!

Whatever the reason is, you GOT ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT    congraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaats

Congratulations to the ones who received their NOA2's. I love all the new NOA2's.

I just celebrated my birthday yesterday but alas I didn't get a NOA2 for a gift. Oh well..sounds like it will happen sooner than later with how CSC is going all out on K1 visa it seems. :)

Anyway, I have a question about bank statements as well. Do you really need all that or just write the total amount down on the affadavit of support? I clear the poverty level no problem as well. I mean I'm asking because I think it would be overkill to show 2 checking accounts and 8 savings accounts. Don't you think? LOL

It is really easy to get your tax transcripts. First note that you can get 2 different types of transcripts:

- Tax Return Transcript: This basically shows the important information from your 1040. This is what you have filed.

- Tax Account Transcript: This also includes the information from your 1040. Moreover, it has the information regarding any adjustments have been made AFTER you filed your 1040.

I don't know which one of these is required. I ordered both :D never hurts to be over-prepaid than under ;)

Both of these are FREE and you can get them from IRS for the past three years. There are 2 ways to get them:

- Get them from your local IRS office (the hard option)

- Order them from IRS website (www.irs.gov) and they mail them to you (the easy option :D ). It only takes couple of business days. When you go to the website, in the middle of the page, there is a TOOLS section. The very first link is "Order a return or account transcript". Then just follow the instructions. It is pretty straight forward ;) You can also find more information regarding these transcripts on the website.

This is kind of random, but does anyone understand why it takes USCIS 5 months to process the initial petition? Is there that much paperwork involved that they can't do it in less than a month? If I were do to the same process with me applying for a fiance/spouse visa in South Korea, it takes at most 2 weeks. I don't understand why it takes them 5 months just to approve the petition from the NOA1...

There is a backlog that they will probably never be able to work their way out from under. So, they are always processing petitions that were submitted months ago. The actual adjudication, according to people on VJ who are very familiar with the process (some of whom have worked for USCIS) typically takes around 5 minutes, once they actually reach your petition.

From what I understand it takes under 30 minutes to adjudicate our petitions but it takes that long to make it through the volume of petitions as they have a few different kinds to work on. That is why it goes in waves. This slow down with VSC will pass and they will go back to our K1's.

I know how difficult this waiting is and I am confident it will work out when it is our time. Sucks but it's true...

I don't have any experience with these sort of complications, but contacting a congressman sounds like it could help. If the situation is really that dire, then these might be the sort of circumstances that would qualify for an expedite? Those seem to be very difficult to get, though: I saw another couple here with a similar situation (but in South America, I believe?) who tried for an expedite and got denied. So I'm not sure how likely that would be to work.

I hope she stays safe! That must be nerve-wracking being so far away with things like that happening. Aaron is in a safe enough place so I don't worry about the political situation, but even so, the couple of times he's been ill, I've been a basket case. It's so hard not being geographically close to them.
