Sample email from the Moldovan embassy (from a couple who got approved like a month ago). Note that the Visa fee has since changed...

We have received from the National Visa Center a petition that you filed on behalf of your fiancée, Ms. S------- , entitling her to "K-1" nonimmigrant visa classification as an alien proceeding to the United States to marry an American citizen. The petition was approved on March 15, 2012 and it expires on July 14, 2012. To prepare for her interview appointment with a consular officer, your fiancée needs to read and follow carefully the instructions below:

1) Complete and return to us the Form DS-230 Part I (http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/81807.pdf), Immigrant Visa Application Part I, Biographic Data. We cannot process her case until this form is received.

2) Fill out, in duplicate, but NOT sign, the Forms DS-156 (that can be found at https://evisaforms.state.gov/ds156.asp), Nonimmigrant Visa Application, together with a single copy of the DS -156(K) (http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/82063.pdf), Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application. All questions on Form DS -156(K) must be answered, but she does not have to answer questions 22, 23, 33, and 34 of Form DS-156. If her child will apply with her, one copy of Form DS -156 for him must be completed in full, including a photograph.

3) Provide a copy of the passport's biographical page for each applicant.

The above mentioned forms should be sent to us via mail or can be dropped off at the Consular Section on Mondays or Wednesdays between 14:00 and 16:00 or on Fridays between 09:00 and 11:00 (except Moldovan and American holidays).

4) Obtain the following documents on this checklist which pertain to her and her child. She does NOT have to send them to us:

a) PASSPORT: A passport must be valid for travel to the United States and must have at least six months validity beyond the issuance date of the visa. Children may be included in a parent's passport, but, if over the age of 16, they must have their photograph attached to the passport.

b) BIRTH CERTIFICATE: The original birth certificate and one copy of it for each visa applicant. If an official birth certificate is not obtainable, present the best possible secondary evidence, such as a baptismal certificate, hospital certificate, school records, and/or a notarized affidavit from your parents.

c) POLICE CERTIFICATES: Each applicant aged 16 years or over is required to submit a police certificate from the police authorities of each locality of the country of the applicant's nationality or current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of sixteen in all last names that the applicant has ever used. Police certificates are also required from all other countries where the applicant has resided for at least one year. A police certificate must also be obtained from the police authorities of any place where the applicant has been arrested for any reason, regardless of the length of residence.

d) COURT AND PRISON RECORDS: Persons convicted of a crime must obtain a certified copy of each court record and any prison record, regardless that they may have benefited from an amnesty or pardon.

e) PHOTOGRAPHS: Two (2) photographs are required for each applicant. The photographs must be recent, 5x5, with no head covering, and showing a full, front-face view against a light background. Only color photographs are acceptable (please find attached the photo requirements).

f) MARRIAGE CERTIFICATES: If she were married previously, she should present her original divorce certificate and a photocopy of it and the divorce decree to prove the dissolution of each such prior marriage. The petitioner also has to provide certified court copies of the divorce decrees to prove the dissolution of each his/her prior marriages, if applicable. Please note that if your fiancée is accompanied by her child she should present a translated notarized declaration (statement) from the child's father stating that he agrees with his child's immigration in the US as well as court decree or custody papers.

g) EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT: Evidence which will show that your fiancée and her child are not likely to become public charge in the United States. If an affidavit of support is to be submitted, Form I-134 should be used.

h) MEDICAL EXAMINATION: Your fiancée should arrange for a medical examination with the physician listed on the attached information sheet. She is responsible for the cost of the examination. A medical examination is also required for each child who will accompany her.

First, your fiancée should bring to us the forms listed in #1, #2 and #3. After she has all the other documents pertaining to her case she is welcome to write us an e-mail at Chisinau-CA@state.gov in order to schedule an appointment.

Remark: Please note that the K-1 visa processing fee is $350 that is to be paid at any MoldovaAgroindbank before the visa interview for each applicant.

We trust you will find this information useful. In case you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.

Thanks for posting the sample!

Totally random but I know you all can appreciate this...we did a Vistaprint order today for all of our "non dated" invitation enclosures and envelopes! We had a couple of Groupons so got exactly what we wanted (plus some stuff for my office) really cheap. Once we have the date set and venue booked, we'll just order invitations, RSVP cards and reception/direction/lodging cards. I'm so excited to be doing real wedding stuff

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

Initially filed for K1 visa - Feb 23 2012

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we've abandoned this application

We married on Aug 24, 2013 in a small ceremony in MA

We'll be applying for a CR1 / IR1 visa as soon as we are able

Watch this space for updates!

Wow, CSC received its own shipment of Red Bull yesterday, I think!

And Darkmoonfaerie: that's really exciting about your invitations! That's kind of a tempting idea, actually. VistaPrint has some really nice designs, and I like that they're not part of the whole Wedding Industry (see also: why, oh why, did I ever give David's Bridal my mailing address????).

Hi Joy,

Do you know if it's important to explain in a separate sheet of paper about how I met with my fiancee in person? We are from the same country, and I just answered the question (18) in the space provided below the question without attaching a separate sheet with explanation. I knew her from Egypt as a relative to one of my best friends there. Any thoughts about if it could have an impact on my application?

Thanks

I did the same thing you did --just answered with a few sentences in the space provided on the form-- but I've seen both approaches recommended with equal fervor here on VJ, so I'm guessing it's one of the few things that's somewhat variable as long as the basic elements are there? From what I've read here, the purposes of that question seem to be to find out HOW you met (maybe) --online, through friends, etc.-- and to affirm that you've seen each other within the last 2 years. Both of these are easy enough to accomplish in a few lines.

Mine said:

"Aaron and I met for the first time in Entebbe, Uganda at the home of ____ (my friend and his cousin) where he also lives, during my visit 12/27/10-1/11/11, since which time we have kept in touch by phone and email. I visited him again 7/2-7/9/2011 and 12/24/11-1/9/12, during which we traveled to Nairobi together to see his sister 1/6-1/8/12, and he proposed 1/7/12 in Nairobi."

I wanted to give a basic overview of our visits, since I organized the photos and other evidence in separate sections by visit. Hopefully, this will do the trick!

This is totally off-topic, and I'm not sure if it's against the board's terms... but hopefully not! I'm just trying to garner a few votes for a picture of my mom that I entered in a contest: http://bit.ly/KBohHC

It's for ModCloth, and if I win, I get a $75 gift certificate... which will be very helpful, since our wedding theme is going to be 1950s/60s and that's the style of the site!

Would very much appreciate your votes if you have a chance... You have to "like" ModCloth on Facebook, and then allow OfferPop (the company running the contest) access - but you can unlike all that after you click the vote button ;)

Thanks!

VSC is still handling december and even some november petitions....( yes there are 2 or 3 January petitions in there). I cant help but feel a little disappointed. I expected a slew of january petitions to be handled already. At this rate, it might be more than a month away for us.

Hopefully its not.

Yeah, they are still digging out and processing some really old petitions. But on the other hand, judging from the graph, they are very nearly done with December, so when/if they start processing any petitions at all again (!!! slow week, much? of course last week was, too, until the Friday extravaganza--both centers seem to really move in erratic spurts rather than anything steady), we should start to get a bunch of Januarys. But I'm really not expecting anything before mid/late June.

(Although has anyone noticed that their estimate range is getting smaller as time goes by? That's kind of comforting.)
