Use her new married name on the health insurance and bank accounts. Your marriage license will be used to verify that.

Thank you! You should be an Immigration Lawyers during weekend. lol

We're prepping for AOS too! Still gathering all the documents - taking it slow. This time we don't have to be apart from each other. So, I don't mind waiting :) Good luck with yours and keep us updated!

Good luck for tomorrow Gavin. It's a bit of a pain still having to do paperwork but it's so much easier doing it together, right? :) It took us ages to get moving on the AOS stuff - my son stayed from the wedding until after Thanksgiving, so we avoided doing paperwork stuff. Glad it's behind us though.

Guys!! THIS IS MY LAST NIGHT IN CANADA!!!

We're heading out tomorrow at around 4am. Tomorrow is POE, but I won't be reunited with Tom until Friday, because we're driving down. Any last minute advice for POE? I have all the paperwork ready to go (I think! - sealed envelope... Passport with visa inside... Itemized list of the boxes in the van...)

Do you guys think I should bother getting a SSN in my maiden name? I arrive on the 21st, then there's two holidays in there, and we'll be married on the 1st of January. Should I just wait til I have the marriage certificate and apply with my married name?

It is up to you on how to proceed with the SSN. I did not wait. I will have to go back to the SSN office and show them my marriage license and they will issue a new card with my wife's married name. So it takes an extra step if you apply for it in your maiden name.

Since you will be married on the 1st of January, that will be just about the time you are adviced to go to the SSN office. So it might be easier for you to get it in your married name.

ConGrats and welcome to the US.

CONGRATS!!! Safe travels tomorrow, and I'm really happy for you!!! You're definitely going to enjoy this part of the process.

I don't think it really matters if you get the SSN in your maiden name or your married name. It might be easier to get it in your maiden name to start, then go change it after you're married. I just think you should have it changed before you file for AOS. That's the only thing I think would make a difference.

Good luck tomorrow!!

Thanks guys!

I'm so excited to finally be joining you all on the other side ;) Felt like this process would NEVER end!

Congrats, safe travels and welcome to America as your new home, finally joining the rest of us US based VJers :)

On SSN, with the holidays and such, I'd get it with your married name as that'll be the right timing for them having you on the system too.

Hi guys!

Congratulations KT and Tommy!

So happy to be here and everything is going good. Except they told me I had to wait 3-4 weeks for my SSN.... I really need it beacuse my fiancé lease is up soon and we wanted to find a new place together which is really hard for me without and SSN..... We are getting married in January so no AOS yet.

Gavin, one question. Is it correct that I can't apply for a drivers license before I have NOA1 from the AOS? How I understand it is that the I-94 and the visa is not enough?

I think it depends on the state law... here in TN it seems that I-94 in a valid passport is enough

We finally got our AOS out today. We were a bit delayed with it because the incorrect spelling on Rob's social security card created some problems with the bank, so we couldn't get money transferred over for the AOS fees. But that's all straightened out, and everything is finally on it's way to USCIS. I kinda have some unrealistic hopes that it will get to the USCIS today, given that the post office is only a mile from the lockbox. Wishful (and silly) thinking :)
