Hiya everyone,

I've been crazy busy this week and just realized I didn't post an update about our petition to bring Alan's boys to the USA. There's good news and bad news. The good news is that the judge wasn't happy with the reports submitted by family services and wants more information because they were very one sided had lots of errors. The bad news is that this means I have to fly over for a full court hearing because they want to interview me, the social worker, both parents and other involved parties. I don't know what else I could possibly say since I've submitted about 200 pages of statements and information, but I'll do whatever it takes. Unfortunately, the earliest date they could assign is Dec 12. This is the date of the last class I teach before final exams at the college. There's no way I can get it off of work so we'll have to reschedule. I'm submitting my request for a different date and getting a letter from the university and will be sending that off ASAP. I'm praying for early January. Looks like we'll be sending a request to London for an extension of our petition based on all of this. It just kills me that we went from his ex being amenable to us moving with the kids at the start to her making every excuse to block us now. For now, I'll be living vicariously through all of you who are having your interviews, getting your visas and prepping for a move! Congrats to everyone who's finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! I'm really happy for you guys

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

Initially filed for K1 visa - Feb 23 2012

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we've abandoned this application

We married on Aug 24, 2013 in a small ceremony in MA

We'll be applying for a CR1 / IR1 visa as soon as we are able

Watch this space for updates!

Thank you! :)

:( Really feeling for you, that puts months on the whole process for you. I'm sure it will all be fine in the end, it's just that thing I've come to despise in this process... *waiting* My prayers are with you.

NVC told my fiance that they sent our case to the embassy on Oct 02, and today my fiance received NVC letter in the mail. Up until now, we have not received package 3 from the embassy or a notification that they already got our approved petition from NVC. Since package 3 is available on the US embassy website, we have downloaded them and fill them out already, and we are ready to send required forms to them so they can schedule interview date with me as instructed on K-1 visa instruction form for Cambodian applicant. Now what shall we do, shall we email the embassy first for their confirmation of receiving our case before we turn in the package 3?

This may be useful...

There is the phone number and contact email address for the embassy, contact them to see if they have received your petition. If they have, you can send the forms in.

Gavin I've just noticed you're immigrating through DC (is that Dulles?) - would you mind posting your review when you're settled? I'm following through behind you (hopefully) on 28th.

How nice it will be to be able to talk about moving to the States without saying words like 'hopefully' and 'if I can'!!

How Exciting!!!!! In the nick of time too :D This will be SLMcT next week... are you guys crazy?? Have you nails left to bite????

Gavin I've just noticed you're immigrating through DC (is that Dulles?) - would you mind posting your review when you're settled? I'm following through behind you (hopefully) on 28th.

How nice it will be to be able to talk about moving to the States without saying words like 'hopefully' and 'if I can'!!

Yep, Dulles International Airport, short code IAD if you're booking a flight on a website that uses it. I've flown to Dulles for every visit, twice being picked up by Heather and twice getting a follow on flight. This time, just to Dulles where Heather will be waiting.

It's an easy airport. Once off the plane you go to immigration, there are two sections...US citizens and the other is for rifraf, sorry us ;) Immigration is normally fairly easy, just questions of where you're staying, purpose of visit and sometimes an odd question like what do you work as. They take finger prints and a picture with a webcam if you've not been there before, I guess. Baggage claim you can see from immigration, you pick up your bags/cases and head right towards customs and then out the door into the airport arrivals :)

I'll post a review of my entry as a K1 visa holder for you too :)

If you haven't bought your ticket yet. I found that flying with Iceland air is by far the cheapest company to get your single ticket. A normal ticket starts at 450 dollars and I got a comfort ticket with extra luggage and priority checkin.

Curious to you guys review as I'm flying through IAD as well.

Yep :D

Oh no, I've had nightmares about oversleeping, one more bit to go, wake up and get to the airport on time :)

Yes, that was cheapest for a single. I booked a return flight as that was cheaper than a single on BA, I'll cancel the return flight when I get there and may bet a small refund. I needed better luggage options for my flight too :)
