“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I am a Canadian and living and working in USA with proper visa. My dad recently became a naturalize citizen. What is my option to get green card or permanent status? How long this process takes? Is it quicker if I am Canadian living and woking in USA?

Your US citizen father can petition for you.

A green card and legal permanent residency is the same thing.

How long the process will take depends on your age and marital status. If you are under age 21 and unmarried, it will take about 6-12 months. If you are over 21 and unmarried, then it will take 7 years. If you married, then it will take 11-12 years (age is irrelevant when married).

Being a Canadian and working in the US does not allow you to get a green card/legal permanent residency any quicker. Being in the US at the time you are eligible to apply for a green card allows you to adjust your status in the US rather than having to return to Canada to wait for a visa.
