I am sure this question has already been asked and answered somewhere on this forum, however I can't find it. I am in the CR1 process (for what seems like forever). I am from Canada and will be moving to the USA to live with my husband hopefully within the next 3-4 months if all goes according to the USCIS timelines. My question is - once I have my interview at the consulate in Montreal and hopefully get approved - when I come to the USA can I apply for work right away? Do I have to apply for a social security number and wait until I get that? If anyone knows the answer and can let me know I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks.

You need a SSN to work. You will already be authorized to work on entry - just get your SSN and you are good to go.

Also, you may be eligible to collect EI from Canada as well. Check out the EI thread at the top of the Canada Forum. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/93-canada/

There is also more information on the Service Canada website: http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/ei/information/outside_canada.shtml#file

Best of luck in your journey :)
