Can we file I-130 only?

My novia and I decided to get married.She is here on a tourist visa.Of course,we want to have legal status for her to stay. Please correct me if I am wrong,but as I understand it,the I-130 is for residence status only,and the I-485 is for the green card and AOS? Do we need to file the I-485 with the I-130 or can we wait? Is their a time limit for filing the I-485? We have decided that she will not need to work until a year or two down the road, so we are wondering if we can wait on the I-485.

No green card means she cannot stay and cannot live or work here.

If shes planning on staying in the US , living and working here you must file for AOS and get the green card.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

The easiest and fastest way is to submit the I-130 and I-485 together. My AOS got approved yesterday and it took us 2 months and 2 days. My friend from Canada just submitted her I-130 alone in September and she still hasn't heard anything at all.

Do you mind sharing your interview experience?

I am bad with looong stories, but we got there about 11:40am and our app was at 12:15, but we got already called in at 12:05. the officer was really nice and said, that his goal is to approve me today.he went through all our paperwork and mentioned it was very well organized and complete (yes, you can do it without a lawyer, just do your research) and the only question he asked was: "how did you meet eachother?" and took a look at our photos. he didnt wanna see any originals, not even my passport. and we brought tons of stuff :)) so if your application is already complete and well organized, the will appreciate it and theres no need to worry. this will be easy, as long as you are honest. my case was easy too, because I never been rejected at the border, neither have I been arrested or seen negative in any way. the interview took about 10 mins. later that day, I got an email saying that my case was updated and my card has been ordered.
