Hi,

firstly i have to say that me and my lovely lady passed our interview at the Dallas office yesterday morning! Its a serious weight off our minds, no more "if we pass" and "assuming that everything goes ok" before every plan we make!

QUESTION;

I should of asked at the interview but, we are moving to another apartment in the next month and the greencard is unlikely to have arrived by then. So i want to change the sending address to her parents house. Can i do it online or do i file an I-865? Its less than obvious when you go on USCIS.

Thanks!

Good luck on them getting it changed. I've read many posts about GCs sent to the old address despite changing online and ringing them up. Maybe you'll get it in the next 2 weeks.

Congrats on the successful interview!

Government mail is not supposed to be forwarded as in USPS will return it to sender rather than forward it.

File an AR-11 for the immigrant and an I-865 for the USC. Hopefully you'll get the GC before you move because as was said, often even with the address change mail will be sent to the original address and if it's lost in the mail YOU will need to pay for a new one, for the princely sum of $450+

When my then-finace (now husband), we had to changed address.

despite us filing it online, sending the papers,calling them on the phone etc etc, our NOA1 got lost in the mail.

In the end, we went to a USCIS and had a lady help sort it all out (the change was never registered despite the numerous paperwork we did before).

My advice is keep the address and let your old apartment complex know that you would like to collect the mail for the next month.ie. have them put aside mail that is in your name...sort of a transition period (most places allow u to do that)

Perhaps you can look into getting the post office to hold all your mail for a month or so until you have received your green card. It's easy enough to do for vacations so I imagine it would be possible for this as well. I know USPS won't forward your green card but I would assume they would hold it.

Sometimes. I know DMV mail here in iowa isn't held. they have signs all over the DMV and they tell you a bazillion times.

Ah, that could be. Perhaps it's state by state. In my experience in Virginia they will hold government mail, but I'm not sure if that is state policy or just something my local office does whether or not they are supposed to.

OP, I would go down to your post office and see what their policy for holding mail is and go from there. Good luck.
