Does anyone have experience with using foreign assets (ie apartment in Bogota) as part of the assets needed for Sponsorship of immigrant. We would use the apartment value (appraised value - loan value) plus cash and would be over 3 x the poverty level. Anyone have experience with whether this would be accepted or not?

(Let me know if I am not using this thread correctly?!)

In my K1 case for my fiance in Colombia, it has been over a week my file was sent to Bogata from the NVC. Do I need to email Form DS-2100 and DS-230?

If not, do I simply wait to get contacted by email, or should I go ahead and pay the fee and schedule the interview?

Please help!!

Send the embassy an email with your BGT number to make sure they did receiver your case. If they say that they do have it, then you can go move forward, pay for the visa, make your appointment, etc.

Hi Diana! I sent 3 emails since my file was sent over a week ago from the NVC. Two they answered, that they will info me once they get it. I sent one last night, no reply. Still waiting and quite anxious. Is this normal processing time?

No, it's not normal because it only takes about 2-3 business days for the case to arrive at the embassy. So I'm thinking the embassy is just overwhelmed with correspondence and they have no idea what to do. THAT part is normal, believe it or not.

So anyway, there's a thread here on VisaJourney where they track all packages that are sent from the NVC to most embassies. Check it to see if your case was one of the ones they sent over to Bogotá or follow the instructions on the first page to see if you can track it yourself. You will need the date the NVC told you they had sent your case to the embassy, you can't do anything without that date.

DHL Tracking From NVC to US Embassy

According to the NVC it left Nov. 23. I saw the DHL track thread and the package arrived in Bogatá on Nov. 26. So they got it. They just have not given me the official word. I feel like just signing up and paying the fee since the instruction package is online anyway, but I think it is better to wait for the official email from them.

No, if you're pretty sure they already have it, go online, pay the fee and choose an appointment date. Like you said, the instructions package they send you via email is the same you can find online. The US embassy in Bogotá is extremely disorganized when it comes to this stuff and if you wait for them to contact you, you'll be waiting for at least another week, maybe more.

Just one more thing: Was I suppose to send a DS 230 (part 1) attached with my email to the embassy?

Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself. My fiance is from Medellín but spent her first 7 years in Pasto and then one year in Rionegro before coming here in 2010 on a F-1. We will be getting married in two weeks and will be beginning the process to change her status and get an EAD. We will be following the "Step-by-Step Guide on How to File an I-130 for a Spouse Inside the US" and I'll create a timeline as soon as we start the process. Can't wait to meet other users and maybe practice my limited Spanish in the other thread. ;)

01-05-2013 - Arrived at Chicago Lockbox at 11:27 am but no authorized recipient available. Notice left.

My financee has her interview for K1 on Tuesday, Jan. 8th. I will be there for that. How do people normally dress for the event (that get approved)? Do they dress business attire? Business casual? Casual?

Casual - but dressed for cold weather and possibly drizzling, cloudiness. When I was in Bogota with my Wife, we saw a couple that were over-dressed in Business attire, but for the most part, you saw the Colombiana dressed in local casual attire, carrying around the ubiquitous envelope that each beneficiary is handed as you enter the Embassy.

I wore a pair of jeans, clean shoes, a lightweight jacket, and a casual dress shirt. My wife wore jeans, boots for the cold weather, a lightweight down jacket, a sweater underneath, and we tried to not look nervous as we handed the photographs and paperwork to the Consular Official. He watched my eyes like a hawk when he would ask me questions specific to dates along our personal timeline (i.e. - Which date we met, etc.). Good luck!
