Hello my dear VJerz,

My friend is going for a ir-1/cr-1 and is soon getting married in Argentina before starting the whole thing. In order to prove she's never been married she needs to take an affidavit of singleness/ certificate of celibacy with her. Has anyone done this before? I heard that you can write one yourself and have it notarized. Thanks in advance for your answering guys. :thumbs:

I married in Colombia recently and they asked me for the exact same document. I drafted one myself using a sample off the internet and had it notarized. Then sent it out for an Apostille, and translated the whole thing into Spanish. Most Latin American countries always ask you to have all foreign documents accompanied by an Apostille and translated to Spanish.

Citizenship

6/24/2016: Mailed N-400 package via USPS from Naval Base Yokosuka, Japan

7/11/2016: Received NOA1 dated 7/5/2016

11/3/2016: Received email from USCIS-Seoul Office with Naturalization appt set for 11/30/2016

11/30/2016: Naturalization Interview on Naval Base Yokosuka, Japan. N-400 Approved

12/1/2016: Naturalization Ceremony

Mine was actually titled in English "AFFIDAVIT OF SINGLE STATUS" or in Spanish "CERTIFICADO DE SOLTERIA" ... hope that helps your friend

Eh... You only need to prove that a divorce has taken place IF you have been married. If she is living in celibacy is of no interest to anyone

No verification needed. Let's put it this way. Your friend will be signing a sworn affidavit saying he/she is single and that's good enough for the country where he/she is getting married. If later down the road one of them was in fact "NOT SINGLE" then you will be in trouble to apply for a VISA, but I think nobody would be so stupid to make such a mistake

Thank you Alexanderdigreat for the great information. So basically what I should say is they can write it, get it notarized, get it authenticated by an Apostille and have it translated?

I had an idea...

Is it possible to write one in spanish and get it notarized (with a bilingual notary) and then have it authenticated by and Apostille. What do you think?

LOL, when I first saw this thread, I thought, where on earth are they getting married...

I got mine at the US embassy Tegucigalpa. About $20, they looked at me, said I look single, I promised I was, and they printed it out. No translation or apostilling necessary, no appointment.

Going thru this process now. It can be confusing because in the USA we are not required to prove that we are single. However I read many different opinion's about this issue. I live in Missouri so I called the Missouri Department Bureau of Vital Records. They told me that they do issue this Single Status affidavit‏. I need to send them a letter with my name, birth date, City and State that I was born in, Race and my last divorce date. also to include a 15 dollar check. After I get this I have to send it to the Missouri Sectary of state to get the Apostille. Then I send that down to the place I am getting married (Honduras) were the document will be translated by a certified Government Translator.
