Hi

Asking for a friend....

Older lady wanting to visit her sister from Europe

Got 10 year visa (?) from U.S. embassy in her country...

then

at POE

officer stamped 6 months..which reading on VJ is normal

Can visitor leave the country briefly (Like Mexico or Canada) and come back for the additional remaining 2 months until her return plane ticket?

she wanted to stay 8 months hence the flights were purchased when the sister in US was informed she got 10 year Visa.

Want to know if there is a way to not pay an extra 300 for the extension...

Hope I wrote it clear...

Thank you for the info in advance...

Needed to post this in other forum????? I thought I did please move me if I need to be moooooooved

Which is cheaper, changing the airline ticket so she leaves before the visa expires or applying for an extension? She should be thankful the US lets her stay for 6 months. When I go to my wife's country, I can get a 1 month visa max. At least she does not have to apply for a visa for the next 10 years if she uses it properly. It is very important to not over-stay the six months or the 10 year visa becomes invalid and she may then have trouble getting another one.

...She is grateful to be here!!! We all are.

it is a 50 U.S.difference between both

so that is not the finalizing factor..

But a good point :)

In my case, Mexico doesn't care about your visit, I have been there back and forth without anyone from Mexico asking for paper, only at US border when I came back. I crossed land border at Algodones, Mexico.

Somebody can correct me if I am wrong from what I understood if somone went to US or CA for short visit the 6 months clock is not reset upon entry.

If they go for longer visit then upon entry they will have to prove their ties to the home country and why they would return back to home country, if denied entry at that point then they would be required to fly directly to their home country.

Also extension can be applied and from recent updates on the visa journey it seems extension are getting approved very easily, which was not normal few years back.

Usually they ask "how long are you staying for?" You think the person said 8 months and got in?

Yea I am sure they asked how long you are going to stay....lol and OP did not answer 8 months as well. :)

This would not be the first person wanting to extend the stay as well...lol :)

The point was not everytime CBP officer would ask to see the return ticket.

From what happened...POE was done and the Officer stamped 6 months...there was no indication of this until she got to the home and days later looking through her European passport.

They had questions for the lady but not about the return ticket

And only now do I personally see they commonly stamp 6 months

Was looking if others had this experience and what they did

I will give them the USCIS phone number to see what options if any....

Still dont know if she can go to Mexico and back even for vacation...now that a VISA for that country was brought up :bonk:

Even if she gets the visa to Mexico it will not reset her 6 months stay. They never ever give a person more than 6 months on a B2 visa. She can file for an extension.

Look at my post #7 visiting Mexico would not reset her clock and if she would be denied entry from her visit to Mexico she will have to fly home from Airport be prepared for that.
