If you have a valid AP, you are free to travel with that. Traveling is what the AP is meant for. You don't have to give the airline any specific information beforehand, though I would personally reserve a bit extra time on your way back at the departure airport, as some airline reps might not recognize the new-ish EAD/AP combocard and it might take them a bit longer than usual to verify it is acceptable and do the check-in. You also do not have to notify USCIS that you are traveling.

If you get an interview scheduled for the time period you were planning to be abroad, you would have to come back for that. USCIS will not re-schedule an interview just because you went for a visit back home. You will also have to have someone reliable checking your mail while you are gone to make sure you get information about any correspondence from USCIS while you are abroad.
