Gas cost more before Obama took office. Just a fun fact.

What did Obama do to lower the cost of gas?

I'm not sure where you're getting your definitions from, but racism doesn't necessarily have to be negative. Classing people together based on race is racism. Look it up.

Usually from the dictionary if I'm not sure. Where do you get yours? I have never come across a defininition of racism that only involves what you are describing.

It sounds like you're not sure. Maybe you should look it up again.

While you're at it, look up bigotry as well.

What's the point of this? We both can look up the definitions. I don't need to. You don't want to.

But since you're the one going around calling people racists, it really would behoove you to learn what the word means.

If by "fun fact" you mean "inaccurate statement with no citation" then I agree with you.

You said he's not racist (but a bigot) and I didn't understand the definition of racism or bigotry. Furthermore you posted people often incorrectly interchange racism and being a bigot. I looked up both words (prior to posting) just to be sure. You should do the same. You may find it's you that doesn't understand the subtle differences and proper usages of the two words.

The point of my post is society accepts - almost encourages - black people to be racist. However, if a white person is anywhere even close to being racist, they're immediately called out and admonished for it because racism is so horrible and unaccepted... if you're white. Samuel L. Jackson's comments in the (totally not racist or bigoted) magazine and Newt Gingrich's recent comments to the NAACP are perfect examples. One was racist. One was not. Guess who got called a racist? Guess who got a free pass?

Instead of focusing on the issue (racism is wrong in any form) you're splitting hairs over the definition of words you don't seem to understand. Look at the big picture. Focus on the issues!

OK, well somewhat lame, but I guess I have to do this

rac·ism

n.

1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.

2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

big·ot

n.

One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

Now I actually didn't say Jackson was a bigot, I said that was the word you were looking for, and I said that based on the assertion you made. I wouldn't have called him either word. I wouldn't have called Gingrich that either, but based on what they both said, I see how Gingrich's comments are more likely to be construed as racist - he actually made a negative comment about another race.

The issue you actually raised is that allegations of racism in the USA seem to often involve a lot of conjecture on the part of the accuser.

racist BLEEPS stink

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

I don't need help with words. Thanks for the offer though. As you can clearly see now, Jackson is racist yet nobody called him out on it. Gingrich, who talked about advancing a particular race at the assocaition for the advancement of that particular race's event was labeled as a racist. Why the double standard?

There is no conjecture on the part of the accuser. Jackson made racist comments in a magazine titled "Ebony" (which is totally not a racist magazine... why?) yet not a single story has been posted about him being racist. Why?
