Ok well so much for the FedEx plan, looks like it'll be USPS :) I read just the opposite here on VJ about the tax transcripts - Now I'm confused wacko.gif I didn't order them because I'd read that and have the packet put together with my copies from turbo tax.

I don't know when your 90 day window opens, but on several threads I saw that actual IRS transcripts were required. Or that some had been RFE'd for only sending in the turbo tax stuff. We are planning on sending the IRS transcripts for 2009 and 2010 and then the turbo tax print out for 2011 since we just filed those last week. Like I said, it only took them 5 days to get the transcripts to me, so it isn't that long to wait.

I just did a quick search and it seems that this is one question no one really has an official answer for! Some people didn't send the transcripts and didn't get RFE'd, others didn't send them and got an RFE requesting the transcripts!

I guess the deal with the transcripts is that it has ALL of your information. It includes the W2 info and 1040 stuff as well as confirming that you filed -whereas the turbo tax print out doesn't do this. All you see from that is that you filed (that's what one thread said anyway!).

If you have a week to spare then I'd call the 1800 number. It didn't take long. I was on hold for about 15 minutes, but that's it. This could cost you a week now, but save you several weeks down the line! Or, be totally pointless! But I guess there's no way to know unless you go for it! Good luck!

Here's a quote from another thread which is kinda helpful:

Posted 26 April 2011 - 12:32 PM

"Someone mentioned that if you send copy of tax return, you should also send w2 and other documents.

However, like other has mentioned, tax transcripts are easy, official, and no risk of unintentionally leaving out any documents (like I did by leaving out w2 and other stuff). "

I knew I should have just ordered them :( I did for the I-130 but, after all the reading here, decided not to this time around. Oh well, we have lots of time and everything else is done...better safe than sorry...so I'll be sending ours next week now I suppose. An RFE would take longer than 5 business days good.gif

Check cashed this morning! In regard to tax transcripts/returns here is my 2 cents: I have ordered the transcripts a month and a half ago. They never arrived! I didnt have access to a fax machine either to call them up and have them faxed. So I gave up and I made copies of our tax returns including our W2s and included them in the package. They aren't turbotax returns. However, time will tell if I did the right thing, I guess.

I just ordered ours by phone. There were two options, the return transcript and tax account transcript, so I just ordered the past 3 years of each kind. I'll keep the account one for us and send them the return transcript. Thanks Chinky :)

I sent them the 2009 and 2010 tax transcripts. We still haven't filed for the 2011. Somehow we owe $1500 in taxes. Blegh. So I am not going to file till April 15. If we get a RFE, then I'll send those returns in.
