My mothers visit visa has Given name as FNU because her surname is blank in passport. She will be getting her status adjusted here. I came to know that their will be lot of problems without a surname in US like SSN, ID etc.

We would like to add a surname on her passport. She would then be given a new passport. What effect will this have on her already existing US visa? Can she travel using that visa and both the passports?

FNU means "First name unknown." If a person has a single name, in the US, that will be their last name. It sounds like in your country that you can leave last name blank. I am not sure that US docs have the ability to leave the last name blank. It sounds like what you have on your visa is correct. Why do you want to change it?

It would help to fill out your profile so people with experience in your country can give better advice.

Also, what visa does she have now? She cannot come to the US on a tourist visa and "get her status adjusted." That is visa fraud.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

She is the immediate relative of a US citizen. US Immigration allows that if i am not wrong.

Can anybody else throw some light on this?
