Can I travel without a visa?

Hey everyone! So here's the short version of my question. My husband arrived here July 2011 (fiance at the time, and came on a fiance visa). We got married in August 2011 and by the first week of September had filed the AOS,EAD, AP paperwork. We have gotten the EAD and AP approved and are still waiting on the AOS, but he should get the green card any day now (the case transferred to the California Service Center back in November=a good sign, i think). ANYWAYS, I just heard that he needs to register with the Italian Consulate in Detroit; is this true? He doesn't have his green card yet. Second question: We already got our tickets to fly back to Sardegna this coming July, does he need some kind of visa for this trip? Does the AP all he needs? We will only be going for 17 days and i want to do my best to make sure my husband wont be turned back home in customs!

Thanks, in advance to your responses.

You just need his AP. Once he gets his Greencard, he will use that to enter the US. He uses his Italian passport to enter Italy.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

First question:

My someone that immigrated here from Italy can answer that or you can call the Italy Consulate to get the answer.

Second question:

Once your husband has the GC, you are free to travel and the GC is his ticket to re-entry. No AP needed once he has the GC.

Hi,

Once your husband receives his green card he can register for AIRE with the Italian consulate that serves your region. He has to register with AIRE if he plans to renew his Italian passport or drivers license, vote in certain elections, or register your marriage with his local townhall (necessary if you plan to file for Italian citizenship in 3 years). I don't know if you have to go to the consulate in person to register. We live in Baltimore and our consulate in located in Philly, so we went their and filed in-person. Have you husband call the office. Perhaps you can file by mail or go to a closer honorary consulate. I will say that it's probably a safer bet to go in person. Back in the summer of 2010, we mailed the information necessary to register our marriage to the Philadelphia consulate and apparently they never sent this information to my husband's home town.

Goodluck!
