My wife got her visa CR 1 visa today, it says it expires April 9th. Our flight is booked to arrive March 26th so does she have to leave before April 9th? Or does she get a new visa when she lands? Or does she get a magic stamp at the border that give her a year?

I read that once you arrive you get 1 year, some say 2 years, but visa says April 9th?????

Please help.

The visa is only to enter the USA, you have to do that before April 9th.

She will get the magic stamp to act as temp greencard for one year. A few weks later, she will get the physical greencard in the post, which will be valid for 2 years. 90 days before the two years are up, she will need to file for ROC (Removal of Conditions) to get a ten year greencard.

Things are a little different now with regards to the stamp received at the POE. At the bottom of the visa, there is an annotation at the bottom of the visa that reads (words are paraphrased), 'upon endorsement, serves as temporary I-551 valid for 1 year.' That "endorsement" is a CBP admission stamp placed on the page next to the visa, the CBP officer will also write the visa type and the A number in the given fields of the admission stamp.
