war crimes also include firebombing entire cities to ashes, same for nuking civilians.

but the winners hold war crime trials, not the losers, so quite a few US generals were never tried (like general le may).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis_LeMay

Precise figures are not available, but the fire-bombing campaign against Japan, directed by LeMay between March 1945 and the Japanese surrender in August 1945, may have killed more than 500,000 Japanese civilians and left 5 million homeless.[10]

the fire-bombing of Tokyo on March 9–10, 1945......In a three-hour period, the main bombing force dropped 1,665 tons of incendiary bombs, killing some 100,000 civilians, destroying 250,000 buildings and incinerating 16 square miles (41 km2) of the city. Aircrews at the tail end of the bomber stream reported that the stench of burned human flesh permeated the aircraft over the target.[9]

And what should we have done? My grandpa used to tell us stories of what they saw when they came back to the Phillipines along with what happened to American POW's. Alaska had two Aleut villages that entirely disappeared from the face of the map after the Japs got done with them.

Do you have any idea at all what they did to the people they got their hands on? Animals is too nice a word. They had ZERO conscience. Don't ever try to convince me that the US was too hard on Japan. You would be better off trying to sell me a bride in Jersey.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Blood diamonds and Apartheid: Some crimes against humanity can't simply be washed away with time.

Israel and South Africa's apartheid regimes had close ties, and many joint ventures, from small arm manufacture and development, to manipulating the diamond market, and apparently, some interest in Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological weapons.

Sorta makes the cover story a bit unlikely, doesn't it? It wasn't really a big secret at the time.

US policy toward Israel made a 180 degree change in direction shortly thereafter, as did the beginnings of serious reforms in South Africa.

180 degree?

180 degree?

 The US considered Israel a terrorist nation until we were sure they got nukes, sometime between the mid 1970's and 1986. Isreal supposedly offered to sell South Africa 20 "special devices", and that was when the US first suspected that Israel was a viable nuclear threat.

Israel may have had a nuclear device as early as the mid sixties, however, and had an active nuclear program since 1948.

So the US was Anti Israel up until about 1980 and then we decided they had nukes so we would be their friend?

I think Egypt may have mistaken our hostility for Israel in 1973 as support. Not to mention the 25 years prior to that.

Israel didn't become an official "Non-NATO" ally until 1989. Israel had a habit of attacking it's neighbors, many of whom, like Jordan, were strong US allies. In the Yom Kippur war, Egypt and Syria initiated the attack, although Israel was more than ready to launch a preemptive strike. Golda Meir decided not to initiate the conflict, and anger the Americans. The Soviet involvement in Egyptian affairs and military aid normally would have put US squarely in the Israeli's corner. However, the US stepped in and saved the Egyptian Army from being completely decimated by the Israeli counter-offensive, on the condition that the Soviets didn't become directly involved in the conflict themselves.

The end result: Soviets out, US in, and we ended up with tons of slightly damaged Soviet hardware to reverse engineer and practice against at Fort Irwin.

Two days later, on May 14, 1948, the United States, under Truman, became the first country to extend de facto recognition to the state of Israel, 11 minutes after it unilaterally declared itself independent.

During Lyndon B. Johnson's presidency, U.S. policy shifted to a whole-hearted, but not unquestioning, support for Israel

The Israelies got caught with their pants down at the start of the Yom Kippur war. Then with balls as big as cantaloupes and supplies from the American airlift kicked butt.

Sadat kicked out the Soviet military advisors in 1972 (before the Yom Kippur war) for being obnoxious bores.

Keeping the Israelies from squashing the what remained of Egypts forces did not make us less of an ally

Official or not we were their ally

De facto recognition is weak. It is sorta like acknowledging that McDonald's is a restaurant in name only.

During Lyndon B. Johnson's presidency, U.S. policy shifted to a whole-hearted, but not unquestioning, support for Israel

LBJ was the exception. However, that didn't stop the IDF from torpedoing the USS Liberty and strafing its decks during his watch. Some even suspect LBJ purposely sacrificed the Liberty as an excuse for the US to attack the Egyptians. However, a Soviet submarine giving aid to the survivors when the US Fleet failed to do so, put a big hitch in that plan. And the Israelis, not the Egyptians, were identified as the culprits.

Here's what your tax dollars are paying for.

AN RNC RESOLUTION TO COMMEND THE NATION OF ISRAEL FOR ITS RELATIONS WITH THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

WHEREAS, Israel has been granted her lands under and through the oldest recorded deed as reported in the Old Testament, a tome of scripture held sacred and reverenced by Jew and Christian, alike, as the acts and words of God; and

WHEREAS, as the Grantor of said lands, God stated to the Jewish people in the Old Testament; in Leviticus, Chapter 20, Verse 24: “Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey”; and

WHEREAS, God has never rescinded his grant of said lands; and

WHEREAS, along with the grant of said lands to the Jewish people, God provided for the non-Jewish residents of the land in commanding that governance must be in one law for all without drawing distinction between Jewish and non-Jewish citizens, as contained in Leviticus 24:22, and

WHEREAS, the Nation of Israel declared its independent control and governance of said lands on May 14, 1948, with the goal of re-establishing their God-given lands as a homeland for the Jewish people; and

WHEREAS, the United States of America, having been the first country to recognize Israel as an independent nation and as Israel’s principal Mideast ally, has enjoyed a close and mutually beneficial relationship with Israel and her people; and

WHEREAS, indeed, Israel is the United States of America’s greatest friend in the Mideast; and

WHEREAS, the roots of Israel and the roots of the United States of America are so intertwined that it is difficult to separate one from the other under the word and protection of almighty God; and

WHEREAS, there are those in the Middle East who have sought to destroy Israel from its inception as anation; and

WHEREAS, those same enemies of Israel also seek to destroy the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, the United States of America and the nation of Israel have enjoyed cordial and mutually beneficial relations since 1948, a friendship that should continues to strengthen with each passing year.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Republican Nation Committee that the committee by this resolution commends the nation of Israel for its relations with the United States of America.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the members of this body support Israel in their natural and God-given right of self-governance and self-defense upon their own lands, recognizing that Israel is neither an attacking force nor an occupier of the lands of others; and that peace can be afforded the region only through a united Israel governed under one law for all people.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Senate Leadership and each of the legislatures of the states within the United States of America with the request and recommendation of this body that a similar resolution to that stated herein be proposed within their respective bodies.
