AFP – 10 hrs ago

Hamas "will never recognise Israel," Gaza prime minister, Ismail Haniya, said Saturday in a speech in Iran that is likely to complicate Palestinian efforts to form a unity government in the teeth of opposition from the Jewish state.

"They want us to recognise the Israeli occupation and cease resistance but, as the representative of the Palestinan people and in the name of all the world's freedom seekers, I am announcing from Azadi Square in Tehran that we will never recognise Israel," Haniya said.

"The resistance will continue until all Palestinian land, including Al-Quds (Jerusalem), has been liberated and all the refugees have returned," he said.

Haniya's reiteration of Hamas's long-held stance was made on the occasion of Iran's commemoration of its 1979 Islamic revolution.

The Gaza leader spoke to an estimated crowd of 30,000 from a stage alongside Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

"The Iranian people are a partner in this victory," Haniya said. "God willing, we will met you along with other Palestinians in a free Palestine, in its capital Al-Quds," he said.

Israel rejects efforts by Hamas to link up with Fatah, the secular faction of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas that runs the West Bank, to form a unity government. It views Hamas as a terrorist organisation and Iran as its sponsor and weapon supplier.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told UN envoys on Thursday that a Hamas-Fatah accord signed this week to partner in the new government "does not contribute to the advancement of peace negotiations or the well-being of the Palestinian people."

The so-called Quartet of diplomatic players in the Middle East peace process -- the European Union, Russia, the United Nations and the United States -- has long demanded that any Palestinian government including Hamas must meet certain conditions to join negotiations.

Those are the renunciation of violence and the recognition of Israel and of past agreements with the Jewish state.

Direct peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians have been frozen since September 2010. The Palestinians have demanded that Israel halt settlement construction in the occupied West Bank. Israel rejects any conditions for talks to settle the Middle East conflict.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

dummy Israel has one of the highest gdps in the middle east. if it was not or oil then it would be the highest. numbers came from the middle east, but it must have been a Jew who invented.

Would they still be in the same economic position if they didn't get the economic and military aid that the US provided them?

yes, the get less aid then other middle east countries. most of the aid come in military. because the have to defend themselves. if the surrounding countries where peaceful no aid would be needed.

Jordian people live of the aid the receive. Syria is using the aid the receive to kill their own people, and Egypt is doing an awesome job of ruining their relationship with the USA, that they are about to lose ~1.9 billion in aid a year.

so before you throw aid money around see how it's being used. is it for living or defense.

They have never detonated a nuclear weapon and I don't believe they ever claimed to have one.

Are you sure?

Others who examined the data, including DIA, the national laboratories, and contractors reached a very different conclusion - that the data supported the conclusion that on September 22, 1979 Vela 6911 had detected a nuclear detonation.

Note 3. The Naval Research Laboratory also conducted a study, which has never been declassified. The study concluded that the Vela 6911 signal most probably resulted from a nuclear detonation.See Richelson, Spying on the Bomb, pp. 306-310.

You got a big mouth and no manners, if you wish to engage in a discussion with me I suggest you learn some civility and think before you post. Your mindless rhetoric is as nonsensical as the rest of your inscrutable argument.

Then what's those 200 devices sitting in the Negev? They also test fired/detonated several devices in India. Officially Mordechai Vanunu blew the whistle on this before Mossad abducted him.

U.S. Foreign Aid to Israel

Congressional Research Service Report for Congress

Jeremy M. Sharp

Specialist in Middle Eastern Affairs

September 16, 2010

7-5700

www.crs.gov

RL33222

Summary

This report provides an overview of U.S. foreign assistance to Israel. It includes a review of past aid programs, data on annual assistance, and an analysis of current issues. For general information on Israel, see CRS Report RL33476, Israel: Background and Relations with the United States, by Carol Migdalovitz. For information on overall U.S. assistance to the Middle East, see CRS Report RL32260, U.S. Foreign Assistance to the Middle East: Historical Background, Recent Trends, and the FY2011 Request, by Jeremy M. Sharp.

Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. foreign assistance since World War II. From 1976-2004, Israel was the largest annual recipient of U.S. foreign assistance, having since been supplanted by Iraq. Since 1985, the United States has provided nearly $3 billion in grants annually to Israel.

Almost all U.S. bilateral aid to Israel is in the form of military assistance. In the past, Israel also had received significant economic assistance. Strong congressional support for Israel has resulted in Israel’s receiving benefits not available to other countries. For example, Israel can use some U.S. military assistance both for research and development in the United States and for military purchases from Israeli manufacturers. In addition, all U.S. foreign assistance earmarked for Israel is delivered in the first 30 days of the fiscal year. Most other recipients normally receive aid in installments. Congress also appropriates funds for joint U.S.-Israeli missile defense programs.

In August 2007, the Bush Administration announced that it would increase U.S. military assistance to Israel by $6 billion over the next decade. The agreement calls for incremental annual increases in Foreign Military Financing (FMF) to Israel, reaching $3 billion a year by FY2011.

For FY2011, the Obama Administration requested $3 billion in FMF to Israel. According to the State Department’s FY2011 budget justification for Foreign Operations, “U.S. assistance will help

ensure that Israel maintains its qualitative military edge over potential threats, and prevent a shift in the security balance of the region. U.S. assistance is also aimed at ensuring for Israel the security it requires to make concessions necessary for comprehensive regional peace.”

After years of negotiation, the United States and Israel announced in August 2010 that Israel will purchase 20 F-35s at a cost of $2.75 billion, which will be paid for entirely with FMF grants. The first planes are scheduled to be delivered in 2015, though the deal is still pending final approval by the Israeli cabinet.

It's being used to recruit spies like Jonathon Pollard to spy on the US. With friends like Israel, who needs enemas?
