OK, so I am in the new process of all this paperwork (ekkkkkk)!!! I am still in the process of changing my name after the marriage. leagally, I am still going by my madien name as I am currently waiting for the "CERTIFIED" copy of the marriage license from my husband (sometime next week). I was told that I need to go down to the SS office first, then DL office after as they have some new system that the DL uses to make sure that you changed it with the SS Dept. On my forms what name should I be using? My new married name or the madien name?

Thanks,

Nattie

if you filed your 1-130 cr-1 in your married name then you should be getting your green card in married name and social security card in married name,if you filed in your maiden name then all the green card and s.s card will come in maiden name,if you want to change your name. the form 1-90 you pay a fee 350.00 name change for your green card. get your marriage certificate and you new married name green card then go to the social security office for name change, the same thing with the driver license DMV.

You can only use your newly married name after it is changed with Social Security. Otherwise you must still use your maiden name. I waited until my name was legally changed prior to filling out my paperwork

Wrong.

OP - if you want your married name on the GC then you put your married name on the forms. You are not a USC and therefore don't need to worry about the SSA side until you have deal with the GC side. Often the SSA won't let you (as an immigrant) change your info without immigration paperwork.

Good Afternoon,

I am the US citizen (petitioner). However, we married in Jamaica 01/06/2012 and of course we are still waiting for "CERTIFIED COPY" of the marriage certificate (Jamaica-Soon Come Policy) LOL!! This is so I can legally change my name here in the states SS,DL, Medical, Lease and so on. I have taken my husband’s last name (Beneficiary) now.

I just don't want to have problems with the papers being returned or delayed. We may not get the paper until next month and I am trying to complete the forms now and once he sends me the documents I can just add the required documents and mail them. I have never been married before so I don't know how long it will take for the SS to change the name, same day, two weeks, two months. My DL will come back within 3-4 weeks so they said. I just want to get the paper sent sooner rather than later so that is why I am asking. For those of you who have done this what name was used on your forms.

Thanks Everyone,

Nattie

I am in the US and husband in Jamaica. We got married in April but did not receive document for a couple of months. In the mean time, I got everything else ready but unfortunately did not get submitted until August (for various reasons). I sent everything in with my name, not his because I didn't want to wait even longer. Once everything is done and he arrives, I will then go through and make legal changes. I'm not sure he is happy about it but it seemed like the faster way to go.
