Hello everyone... I would like to inquire on behalf of my cousin. She is now a US citizen and wants to know the best and faster way to bring her mother and MARRIED brother,35 years of age, here in the US.

Is it better if she petitions her mother first, once her mother is here, becomes a US citizen after 5 years then mother petitions her brother (mother to son petition)?

OR

She should petition both her mother and her married brother (35 years old) to come here in the US?

Thank you VJ friends!

Well, your mother will be considered an immediate relative which means she won't have to wait for a visa number and the whole process should take between 9-12 months. Your brother is a whole different story because he does have to wait for a visa number under an F3 (Married Sons and Daughters of U.S. Citizens) or an F4 (Brothers and Sisters of Adult U.S. Citizens) category. According to March 2012 Visa Bulletin these are the processing timelines for the Philippines:

F3 = 7/22/1992, this means there's almost a 20 year wait for a visa number. Plus at least five years for your mother to become a U.S. citizen, so at least 26 years total.

F4 = 12/22/1988, this means there's a 23 year wait for a visa number.

It's advisable to file both at the same time... to have a fallback, just in case the other petition doesn't work out or something unexpected happens.

Thanks Diana! So if my cousin decides to choose either one, it will actually take more than 20 years

are they from the Philippines as well? any one of the petitions will take a very long time so I'd say that she file for them. for siblings the wait is over 24 years.

oover 20 if his mom files for him as a USC.

so the wait from his mom would be around 26 to 27 years. until your cousin files for her, she gets a GC and has to wait 5 years until she can apply for citizenship. and she can only file for her son once she becomes a USC.

Here is the link to the visa bulletin the category F3 is for married children of a USC and F4 is the category for siblings of a USC. check under the column for Philippines the dates they are working with.
