Hi,my name is Yunna. I am from (Odessa) Ukraine. I got married and moved to the US. I see there are so many people here end everyone is looking for friends to talk because the period of adjustment to a new country is very hard and it's very important to talk to people who can really understand you and your situation. Is there anyone here who moved to Florida, US? And others who just want to talk about the experience of moving abroad and adjusting feel free to add me to your list or start a conversation here in VS.

I came straight to Orlando, Florida.

Nice state to live, especially if you are from a tropical country, or you hate the cold :)

No state income tax, sales tax is about average (with states with a sales tax), lots of state parks, beaches .... lots of people from around the world ...

I must say .... very good place to live.

Are you from Malasya? It should be similar climate there! I and my husband were in Orlando for New Year's Eve 2012. I must say I liked it a lot, there are so many places to see and of course the city is very big and I enjoyed walking down the streets with lost of cafes and stores. Also there are many tourists down there. I enjoyed our stay a lot and think we need more than just a weekend to really see everything! )) We live in Fort Lauderdale and here there are also many places to see. I enjoy parks, ocean and wonderful nature but I miss friends to talk to. I am very sociable person and have many friends in my native country but because of time difference and distance it makes it not the same. And I cannot just go out and make friends. I am talking to couple local girls but it does not work to just go out with them (either they are busy or I am busy with my husband). And I really miss good friends who will be willing to help me if I call at 2 A.M.-)) Today I felt very lonely waiting for my husband to come back from work and I decided to start a new topic on VJ. I find it strange that there are so many people coming here from somewhere else, they have so many things in common like adjusting to new life, new status of wife(husband), struggling with loneliness or having hard times getting used to local food, but there are so few websites or forums where people could really find friends, talk to each other and exchange experiences since communication is so important. Ok, now I realize that I am making the story too long. Could you please share your experience with me? Tell me how did you meet your other half and what difficulties did you have so far living in a foreign country?

Yunna,

I can relate to everything you said above especially the part in bold. Sometimes it hits me how much I have given up to be with the man I love...It's not just family, friends, homeland, job, hobbies, and memories. He is all worth it, but when the homesickness strikes it can only go away by itself.

If you would like to have a friend to talk to, you could send a PM. I'd love to hear about your experience adjusting to the US a south FL in particular :)

Where exactly in Southwest FL do you live? do you like it here so far? (a question to those who moved).

Port Charlotte (Between Sarasota and Ft. Myers). I like the weather a lot except for humid it can get here. I love how lifestyle is laid-back, that the culture is so diverse, and that people are mostly nice. I love the beaches and that I can wear shorts all year round :D

Oh, it sounds like you just got married recently!!! And it's so tough to be apart from each other, especially knowing that youre married. I wish you the soonest reunion!!! Even if it's tough to adjust and I often struggle with homesickness there is nothing better than being reunited!!! All the best to you two! :)

Hey Orando. I'm in Fort Laud also. My fiancée has her interview on Feb 29. It takes me about 18 hours to get to her. You are lucky. tongue.gif

Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.

I bet you have a big shorts collection already LOL Oh, Port Charlotte is near the place where my aunt lives ( she is in Cape Coral). I heard that you have even warmer weather than us in Fort Lauderdale (couple degrees more). Yes, I agree about people, most of people are nice and some people are even too nice as it seems. This is good I guess but still living here for only 3 months I cannot judge about it. I guess there are different people all over the world. Tell me about your experience, did you have a chance to get a job?
