Apparently Form M is what you file for Dutch taxes (not US taxes!) if you have moved to/from the Netherlands in the past year. So anyone immigrating or emigrating would file it.

The instructions my other half was reading didn't say where to get the form from though! It implies you'll get it automatically, but that doesn't seem to have happened. I guess the IRS isn't much better, not all of the current year's tax forms were available yet! And oh boy but taxes will be fun this year...

You'd think that there would be some people here who are employed by foreign companies --- my Dutchie is lucky to work remotely from home for a German company, so moving from Europe to the USA didn't affect the job. Well, except for our taxes. Both countries want you to file taxes for all of your income wherever you happen to be living. AND we get to deal with part-time residency and single-->married status change.

When your fiance moved to the US he has told the Dutch IRS that he moved to the US, they will send him the M-biljet before the end of February. If you do not receive it by then give them a call and apply for one. Their phone number is Belasting Telefoon Buitenland (+31)555385385

Also check with the US IRS to prevent paying taxes in both countries, the M-biljet needs to be returned before the end of July.

Feb! Well, then I guess we might still automatically get it. :) Thanks, and yes we'll be checking our taxes in both countries very carefully.

How do you get it???

I got it much too late by filing another form which I was able to find on the "belastingdienst" website. They sent me a letter and M-form afterwards informing me I'd filed the wrong tax form and had to file the M-form they sent me. :)
