Google it.

Interestingly I did find where the "discredited" John Lott has testified before dozens of state legislative comittees, most recently Wisconsin in 2011, who subsequently passed concealed carry legislation based on his studies and his testimony among other things including Vermont's history of concealed carry and low crime. Very interesting.

I did. No responses. Big surprise.

Apparently we can infer 'more guns, less typing ability.' Here you go lazy bones...

Google hit number one: ouch, this is gonna hurt...

Uh oh! Skip to the conclusion for a link in Google hit number four: . If RTC laws reduce crime, it certainly isn’t showing up in the aggregate data. 1

Oh my goodness, Lott gets a glass of shut up from a blogger who catches Lott faking table corrections to support his false conclusion Unfortunately, Lott's behaviour with the dates exemplifies his approach to research as well. It is way, way past time that pro-gun folks cut him loose.

Lots of links to fan-boy sites too of course, since Mr. Lott is indeed the biggest name in bogus gun research out there, but you can keep digging, perhaps learn something Gary. I know you won't, since you only learn that which suits your predispositions.

Obviously you failed to read what I said earlier in this thread, and like Lott fan-boys everywhere you think anyone who finds fault [obvious, demonstrable and inescapable though it is] with Lott's work must want to take away your guns. I don't.

You also didn't Google it, since there are indeed many results from doing so, but like your hero Mr. Lott, honesty has no place in your ability to discuss if guns make you safer or less so.

This is perhaps the best possible use of machine guns AND bikinis.

Note also the use of heels. Also note they are American women (muffin tops) AKs should be tested by RUB chicks. I could be biased.

Most likely a RUB chick would not shoot a toilet though.

Were the product tests successful? They never did update us.The bikini tops sucessfully prevented any spillage

There really is no point to carrying an unloaded firearm, but its the open carry law in many states.

Why I posted "here in Ohio..."

Open carry is useless and I would never do it.

The police sure have a lot of success with it.

I've open carried in the past and, without fail, I've never been victimized. Amazing how the mood changes when someone says, "I see you got your pistol on you there." If I would've kept it concealed, perhaps they would've tried to victimize me.

I'm not disputing the fact that concealed carry is a great tactic and the whole "I don't know who's armed" thing is bad for criminals. However, open carrying is instantly effective in saying, "That dude is a force to be reckoned with and whatever I have to deal with, I now have to deal with that dude on top of it." Certainly doesn't carry the same "surprise" factor concealed carry does, but it's pretty effective in saying "I'm not an easy victim."

NO ONE here is arguing for open carry.

I am.

I can only imagine the society where everyone is armed all the time. So nice!

i find that many are simply out of ammo when returning from the range ... thereby unloaded

there is however .... one that always has ammo

I make it a point to have my sidearm or another long arm ready when I'm transporting my long guns. My current fave is AK-47 "pistol" on the seat beside me. Talk about good coverage!

The police have a different role in preventing crime and for them open carry works. It is sort of like a Carrier battle group steaming around with all the weapons hanging out, but what REALLY prevents crime (and war) is the hidden missiles.

Police are easy to identify and determine where they AREN'T. Same with open carry guns. Now, if you get a large percentage of people using open carry, then yeah, that works. If only 1 or 2 or 10% of people are actually carrying guns, you maximize the benefit by hiding which 1 or 2 or 10% it is.

By the way when police have a particularly sticky problem to solve they make it very public that they are adding plain clothes officers to patrol areas. Funny how the same logic would not apply to any other law abiding citizens.

You could argue that concealed carry prevents crime on the whole (which you're doing) but the fact is, open carry prevents crime to YOU at that moment. As you've posted, cops "put their guns out there" so criminals know where they are. I do the same. I don't want a criminal to have to think about "should I victimize this guy or not?" I want him to think "that dude has a gun so I'm going to move on to the next person who doesn't have one."

I could care less what the overall crime rate is for a given area. I live mere blocks away from the most dangerous neighborhood in America yet I'm never in fear of being victimized. Why? Because I make it a point to look like I'm not an easy victim.

Concealed carry is effective in making work environments dangerous for criminals. But, to argue that it's more effective than open carry can't be proven - especially since people who open carry daily are rarely victimized.
