My fiance and I are about to get married in May and I'm in the process of adding him to all of my bank accounts.

He was previously in the US on a J-1 visa and therefore was issued a social security number. This is the number I've been providing my banks. My question is will his SSN remain the safe after adjusting status? To my understanding a SSN is a unique number assigned to a particular individual and remains attached to their identity for life. Is this true for foreign nationals as well?

Right now his SSN card shows "authorization by DHS only". Will a new card (minus the restriction) be issued to him automatically or will we have to apply for a new card ourselves?

I am the petitioner.

When you go back to SSA office, they will ask "Does the person have SSN earlier", it is a one of the point on form.

If I am not mistaken, he will have same SSN without any restrictions.

Deep is correct, the number will stay the same but he'll get a new card which won't mention any restrictions.
