Apply for B2 before cr-1?

Hi everyone,

My situation is as follows. I am the USC and i live here in Mexico. I have an fm3 and a job here in Mexico. I do plan on filing dcf in a few months but until that time i really want my dad to meet my new wife mostly because his health has taken a bad turn and well i fear he may not be around by the time we get the cr-1 process completed. My question is this should i try to get a b2 for her to visit and when we get back start the cr-1 process and since we are married how do i explain to them that yes we will return??? or should we start the dcf process now and then ask for the b2??

I would try for the B2 first, Her chances of getting one are slim due to being married to an American, but if she (and you) can show strong ties to Mexico, she might get it, especially as you have a good reason for the visit. All you have to loose is the application fee.

It worked for us:

She got 1 year B2 visa and then later we got married before her 1 year B2 expired. After we were married, she renewed her B2 visa (for 10 years) before it the original visa expired. And if you're wondering, yes she told them during the recent B2 Visa interview that she was now married to a USC. The didn't seem to care but maybe our situation is different to others. We have since filed the I-130 via DCF and she has a valid visitor visa to use until she gets her GC.

I say go for it. You have nothing to lose but a few $$'s (or peso's).

I would definately try the B-2 first! It's worth a shot.........Wish I would have.
