Manipulate Layover Time for K-1 Entry

You can always call the travel site and ask for a later flight out of JFK. 4 hours is the least that I would want. If you can swing it you might want to fly up and meet her, spend the night and catch a flight to your final destination the next day. Then you would not have to worry about the layover time at all.

2 hours is definitely not enough--my fiancee needed DOUBLE that. However, if she does miss her connecting flight (as my fiance did), airlines are usually good about getting the passenger on the next available flight free of charge. However, she might be pretty rattled if she's never done this before. I would suggest flying/ driving up there to meet her. Could she go into DC instead of NYC? Closer to NC, easier to drive.

Factor in late departure from Manila or connecting city. Are you sure she won't land first in Honolulu or Guam?

My personal recommendation is that if her POE is JFK and her destination is RDU, that you meet her at JFK and drive or take the connecting flight together. If that's not practical, have her arrive as early in the day as practical, with at least a 4 hour layover to something other than the last flight to RDU that night.

No buying a round trip from RDU to Manila and back with the idea she'll just take the return leg. Do your research well and unless she's an experienced traveler with excellent English skills, don't leave her to make that connection on her own.

I have to have my fiancee fly from the Philippines to North Carolina.

Going into Raleigh isn't the easy place to fly into directly so of course she will need a layover in New York which I think will be the POE.

To give her enough time for the waiting time, finger prints, and camera shot at immigration.

Is there a way to manipulate the layover time for your POE while ordering your tickets online?

Here a few suggestions. First I hate Newark with a passion. It is a tough airport to get around. However Filipinos are resliant people. She can get through the airports as long as her English is okay enough to communicate. Airports (even the rude folks in the Northeast lol,, joke guys as us midwesteners raised people always make this comment) will help her get to and from. I know from traveling to many countries that every POE is different. Some will just allow her to re-check her bag after it clears customs. This happens in Detroit, Atlanta, Houston and LAX if my old memory serves me correct. I did not fly through Newark on International flight. Are there any other people from Philippines coming in her timeframe? Maybe schedule her at the same timeline as people she met in Manila at Medical or via this sight. If not as others kicked the snot out of you already lol, take time to meet her if she is uncomfortable. I am still open when our time comes as my fiancee has god english but never flown. I wish I had time off to go back and take the entire journey with her. But I do not. I would suggest working with another person in same timeline and bring her at that time. Good luck..

This would be so perfect! Asking 750 for this flight, but of course she doesn't have visa in hand, yet.

Actually, this is a horrible connection. She would have less than two hours in Detroit. Horrible. Detroit would be the POE.

I hope she not get stuck in Detroit on her POE date - you've not posted since then :(

She will have to change terminals at JFK also, so you might want to meet her there if possible. Good Luck
