Hello fellow vj'ers,

I need ur help with the N400 Part 9 A question: It says lists ALL children i have regardless of wether they live with us, step kids or missing, etc. etc.

question; I have 2 kids from a previous marriage and have 1 now with my USC husband

My hubby has 2 kids from his previous marriage- one living with us with her 3 yr old son and his other daughter lives with his ex in another state.

Should i put 6 in this question or just 3?

I Have 2 kids + 1= 3

Hubby has 2 kids (1 live with us with her 3 yr old son and 1 in another state= 3

So what shud i put in this part 6 or just my own kids??

Thanks for ur help.

You have given birth to a total of = 3 kids

Your Husband has 2 daughters = 2 step daughters for you

So you have a total of son/daughter count of = 5

Wife and I had to list eight kids between the two of us, we listed them all, my six were all born here, her two were over 18. Her IO glanced over it and said none of your kids, after making a comment, Wow, you have a bunch of kids, none of them will automatically become US citizens when you do.

I believe that is the only reason why they want you to list all those kids.

My major problem was putting in my wife's oldest son, still living in Venezuela with a foot long Spanish address, and my own son living and working in Japan. But I used Adobe Acrobat Pro that automatically shrunk the font size to fit in that little address block. Was still very readable with a powerful magnifying glass and was no problem for my wife.

If your two kids from your previous marriage are under 18, will become US citizens when you do, but without any proof, I assume the child you have with your US citizen spouse was born here, so already a US citizen.

Cannot go wrong by listing them all. I listed my 2 stepsons and noted that they are US citizens. I listed my own daughter as well who is GC holder but over 18.

I was not asked about any of them because none related to or were involved in my citizenship application. It's better to provide honest information and let USCIS decide what they do and do not need to know about. No, I agree - it really doesn't make any sense to list children who are already US citizens, but do it anyway :)

Feel that filling out the N-400 is a far greater test than those hundred civic questions, with those, they give you the answers. Not so with the N-400, had to do a lot of digging, read all of the instructions, and even seek the aid of an immigration friend attorney because I was never taught USCIS language in college for some of those very nebulous questions.

For listing all kids, that one part was clearly stated in the N-400 instructions.
