We are sending our AOS packet off tomorrow.

Wanted to run a couple inquiries to everyone:

1. When sending to the Chicago Lockbox, should we follow the same steps as the I-129 and ask for receipt of acceptance (as well as tracking)? Or is that overkill?

2. We are applying, as provided by USCIS, for EAD/AP at the same time as the I-485 (AOS), It appears EAD&AP are taking about 60-90 days for approval. Has this been your experience as well?

3. The general information for ETA for I-485 has been 5 or 6 months on the USCIS website, does it always take this long? <i know patience patience  >

4. How soon after marriage should you go change your SSN with your marriage license? <new last name>

Thank you so much for all of your feedback :)

1. I did tracking. No signature.

2. Yes. (remember it's the one fee of $1070)

3. Sometimes quicker. 3-6 months honestly

4. If they let you you CAN right away. If they don't let you once you get your EAD

When filing AOS you post in the AOS forums. Moving to the AOS forums.

You can change your name with SSA the second you have the marriage license in hand. It's not needed that fast. Some are pretty stubborn and won't change the name if there's less than 14 days until the i-94 expires.

Lately, I've seen people getting EAD well before 90 days. These things go up and down, it's generally within the processing time mentioned on USCIS webpage but if they're backlogged in 2 months then you can't use my experience that much :)

We used priority mail and put tracking on it.

I wouldn't now about the AOS. It depends on whether or not you get an interview, and if the local office has many applicants going through that office.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

Click timeline or "about me" for all details.

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days

I got my EAD after, i think it was, 54 days. My Green card interview has been scheduled for March 6th which is a little under three months. there are people who filed before though who are still waiting. I think the waiting time really depends on quite a number of factors (if you get RFE, if your case gets transferred or if it gets sent to your local office for interview) so it is kind of hard to guess how long it will take.

Like Vanessa, we got tracking but no signature. A few days after it got there we got the email and text saying it had been received and accepted.

Finally time for AOS.......

12/07/11 Sent AOS package

12/09/11 AOS package delivered

12/14/11 Received NOA for I-485 and I-765 (we're not applying for AP)

12/22/11 Received letter for Biometrics

01/04/12 Biometrics in Phoenix

01/31/12 Received email update from USCIS saying that we've been scheduled for an interview

02/03/12 Got an email saying card production had been ordered for my EAD...now just to wait for the card...

02/09/12 Received email saying EAD card has been sent

02/13/12 Received EAD card :D :D :D :D

03/06/12 Interview in Phoenix :).....Approved :D

03/14/12 Received Green card in mail.....

....no more USCIS until December 2013

Thank you for your replies :)We did send the AOS pack and after kinda 1 week we got the NOA1  We hope that no "RFE"'s to get in the way and all will go smoothly :P

Other question that we have is after change the name on the SSN we will get it in same day or will last few days?

oh and, What types of things should we do now that we have applied (we are going to open up our new joint bank account, and put me on all the house stuff, is there something we should be doing besides this?)
