Police reports? How recent do they need to be?

My husband and I work in hospitality and met at the resort where we are now. In the last 5 years he has lived in 3 countries plus his home country of Germany. How recent do his police records need to be? He has police reports from Saudi and Bermuda from when he applied for work permission here. Dowse need to get new reports again? Even though he hasn't been back to either place since he moved? Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

From the age of 16, wherever he lived, he needs to get PCC ( Police Clearance Certificate ).

This response does not address the question being asked. Police reports should be exactly as requested and issued no longer than a year in advance of the visa interview. It's best to have them as recent as practical. If one has not lived in the specific country, an older police report will probably be accepted as long as it is the correct report.

I'll add a question here, I've lived in the US before. Will I need some kind of record from the local PD? I'm the beneficiary, and I've lived in the US for a total of 7 years (lawful non-immigrant status)

NO. The US does their own background check.

IMO, the 'date of issue' needs to be between 2 days to 6 months prior to the scheduled interview date, that interview at a US Embassy/Consulate Immigration Visa Unit.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

I read that it's better to get the background check/police cert before you start applying because they can take a while, especially if you need to get them from several countries. Better safe than sorry. Good luck!

On another note, I need to get a police clearance cert from the Australian Federal Police. How soon should I do it? We plan to file after mid of this year. Thanks :D

In several cases he hasn't been back to these countries since he moved. So do you think waiting closer to interview date matters?

Within six months will be fine. Gives you plenty of time.

Depends on what you mean by "start applying". Certainly, do not obtain police reports before filing the I-130 petition but the police reports go in to NVC WITH the DS230 visa application, shortly after the petition is approved.

Find information on how to obtain any police report here. http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_3272.html
