Finishing my AOS [married and F1] package. I just have one quick question on I-485 package:

I'm renewing my passport right now, that is my passport had expired. Do I have to include a copy of my passport?

Because I read the I-485 instruction [section 3] and it does not say that I have to include a copy of my non-immigrant visa unless I've obtained a non-immigrant visa within the last year, and I've been here since 1994

Thanks for your help.

You need the biographical page and entry stamp. Contact your embassy to renew your passport. Good luck.

Does you visa attached to your expired passport?

I have expired passport with J-1 visa in it and I renewed my passport after my J-1 had expired. My passport hadn't expired till then. So I made copy of expired passport and the visa and then I also made a copy of my new empty passport.

I only sent copies of current passport and entry stamp from old passport, no visa page needed if it is older than 1 year (please read instruction.) Expired passports has same biographical info as current one, so why do we have to make it more complicated with bunch of copies?

I've had 3 passports in the time that I've been here and 2 visas. What should I include?

Copies of valid passport and entry stamps page. Visa page copy will be needed if it is within last year.

my last entry stamp is in my old passport, also, it is across the page from my visa so i guess my visa will still be sent in

I read and re-read the i-485 instructions and the instructions does not say that you should send a copy of your passport. However, the i-485 instructions says [in section 3]that if you've obtained a visa within the last year, then you should send a copy of your non-immigrant visa.

As for biographical information, if you are submitting a copy of birth certificate, and pictures. It should be good enough...

I didnt see where it said passport should be send either, but would it hurt to send it?

I don't think so. but I'm not a big fan of volunteering information. Maybe it's a culture thing... I'd give them what they've asked. If they are not asking for it, I'm not giving them more.
