Hello everybody ,

I am new on the forum and I just subscribed because I don't understand very well how this Visa thing works ,I hope somebody will be able to help me !

I am swiss student in the last year of high school ,and in July I will hopefully start an "apprenticeship" in LA(Computer field), for a period of 6 months, and probably start college there after the 6 months of training .

Today I called the embassy and asked for more info about the Visas, cause there are so many of them and I don't get which one I need , but instead of clearing my mind I found myself more confused than before : They told me something about a "form" DS -2019 that I/the company should fill out for the J-1 Visa ,but I didn't understand much of how it works, and Im not even sure the J-1 Visa is the one that fits for me... They also told me about a H-3 Visa, but I didn't get much of it either ...

I have to specify that I will be probably paid for my work ( I am not sure yet ) and that the company told me they have no time to deal with Visa bureaucracy,so the less they have to do the best is for me.

Could you please give me more information about the topic and maybe tell me which Visa is better for me ??

Also I would like to know if I will be allowed to do a language course while working...

Thank you very much

You will need a J1 visa - Exchange Visitor visa for Interns. Read this here:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1267.html and here: http://j1visa.state.gov/programs/intern/

The DS 2019 will have to be issued through an authorized institution.

All done ;-)

Soapz, Thank you for your reply,I already had a look at the Exchange Visitor Visa but I haven't found anything suitable for me . The "intern Visa" you have mentioned it's not suitable cause of this :

Sponsors are required to:

Conduct site visits of host organizations that

Have not previously participated successfully in the sponsor’s program;

Have fewer than 25 employees; and

Have less than $3 million in annual revenue.

This company has thousands employers and more than $3 million annual revenue ...

What shall I do ?

Thank you very much again ,

You ned to speak to their immigration lawyer who will be handling your case.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Thanks all for replying ,

Ok so I figured out everything ...The VISA is the J-1 as Sopaz said ,I was wrong on the 25 employees thing, in fact on the website they say the sponsors are required to" Conduct site visits of host organizations that:" ...Have fewer than 25 employees; and

Have less than $3 million in annual revenue. That's not my case cause the company is really big ,I didn't understand well the text before ...

What about the SEVIS ? And what about the DS-2019 ? I mean what do I have to do now ? Just chill and wait till they issue the DS 2019 and then make and appointment with the embassy here ?

Many thanks
