When Newt mentioned minorities and food stamps in the same sentence, he was considered racist by some.... for merely linking the two.

Here we have a story about a proposal to remove sweets and junk-food from the Food stamp approved list and what is the first thing the left retorts with "It will hurt minorites".

... But their observation is not racist as well?

Bill: No sweets with food stamps

Cookies, cakes, more would be banned from Florida program

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

A Florida lawmaker is pushing a bill that would ban the use of food stamps to purchase snacks and sweets, such as cookies and cakes.

Republican State Sen. Ronda Storms, of Valrico, says her goal is to stop a small percentage of recipients who misuse food stamps.

Her bill would also require food stamp recipients to take state-run classes on healthy eating and how making your own baked goods is cheaper than store-made sweets.

The bill is moving through state committees in Tallahassee.

Critics say the government shouldn't be telling people what to eat.

Democratic Rep. Gwyndolen Clarke-Reed, of Pompano Beach, also says the educational provision is demeaning to minorities and the poor by implying they aren't smart enough to make their own choices.

The idea that the tax payer must supply Cheesecake to anyone..... is absurd from the outset.

They should've done away with food stamps a long time ago.

The problem is not cheesecake.

Fundamentally you are right but tactically you are not advancing.

The more attractive you make a give away, the more likely people are to take it example:

Lets say rather than disallow sweets we went much further.

Only basic food items could qualify and in large bulk amounts were possible.

No more name brand stuff either, generic everything.

This would not only save a ton of money but many people who actually are not "poor" would not even bother, of the people I know of that have been on FS, this would be the case with them.

They are too good for beans and rice.

Ronda Storms - enough said. That lady is nuts.

But isn't anyone who takes notice of the liberal mantra "Let them eat cake".... and we will pay for both the cake and chips ....and the healthcare it takes to maintain their bloated bodies.

Silly. EBT cards are a form of money. If a person has an EBT balance of $300 and $200 cash from other sources, job, SSI, selling drugs...whatever, that person has $500 to spend. If you say you can only buy "basics" with the $300, then you buy your sweets, beer, cigarettes with the cash you do not need for basics anymore.

The whole thing is CRACKED, Danno.

I do not want to make anything look less attractive, I want to make it unnecessary!

You want food stamps? FINE, you get them. BUT you must be enrolled in school AND have a job, at least part time, even if handicapped, there are plenty of jobs for handicapped people.

ONLY by education and work experience will someone earn enough to disqualify themselves for welfare benefits and create a better life for themselves than they can receive by not working

Anyone who suggests what she does IS a nut. This is another problem like illegal immigration that everyone knows how to solve and noone does because they need people on welfare for their political agenda.

A person only needs to look at the educational distribution of welfare recipients to see the solution. If a person can make $18,000 per year working a minimum wage job, or $20,000 per year in a factory job BUT they can receive $57,000 per year in welfare benefits, what do you think they are going to do?

IF, instead you say "Here are the benefits available and the credit points for each...you get to choose 10 credit points from this menu of benefits...but you must work and go to school to receive them" Now you have limited the amount they can "get" to the equivilent of, say, $30,000 per year in income AND you are giving them tools they need to do better, which they CAN do with experience and education. In a couple years they will want OFF this welfare nonsense and be making $40,000 per year on their own.

But which politician actually wants them to be independent of the government? Which politician actually wants "those people" integrated in society?

Republicans want to put them in a certain place and get them out of the way, Dems couldn't care less about them but want their votes. They both make insincere gestures toward them to pretend they are "helping"

Why not put all the poor people to work making food that can be given to... poor people.

Each week, instead of being paid money (or, we could pay them some money but the majority would be their own food)they'd get -

cereal

eggs

juice

milk

bread

balogna

cheese

The problem with doing that is we have an entire culture of people who are unwilling to work for even the most basic necessities such as food. If poor people had to depend on other poor people to make their food they'd all go hungry.

But, I can guarantee you if we had a system such as this - we'd have very few poor people!

Oh you'd be surprised who would be ok with living off those things.

It is amusing though how we treat certain things especially on 'racial' boundaries.

You ever need any more proof that Washington doesn't give a flying ** about black people, look no further than the flavored cigarette ban. BAN ALL FLAVORS!!! (except menthol because the blacks smoke those!).

Living off those things would be fine... it's the working to get them part they'd have a problem with.

It's OK to be racist as long as it's "for the benefit of" a certain demographic.

Well, unless you're talking about helping them get jobs and make a life for themselves. Then it's racist.

See Gary these simplistic solutions are, excuse me but.... so unrealistic it make me wonder what experience you have with such people.

To suggest a. these people many who can not hold a job are going attend school and "make something of themselves" is classic utopian thought.

And to those who don't go to school..... what are ya gonna do, cut their food stamps off? What politician is going to take the food out of the mouths of this slackers kids?

My proposal is aimed at those who are

a. only taking the handout because it there, other wise they could get by.

b. Provides basic food stuffs which a true person in need would not turn away.

As a civil society we are burdened with taking care of the poor to some extent, I just see no need to care for them at the same level as those who do the right things in life.

Why in the world is my mother clipping coupons and the free loader doesn't

Why do I buy off-brands while the freeloader can shop at the most upscale store?

I'll tell you why, because of the Left.

if this law is passed by the state Team Obama will fight it as they have in the past.... they call it "stigmatizing" the minorities and poor.
