my interview is on on April 30th, do you think they will ask for 2011 transcripts at my interview? my fiancee has a very complicated financial situation which makes it nearly impossible to get taxes done before the dead line. she always have to get an extension because she need different docs from different financial organizations which are always date in sending those things to her. i just hope they will accept 2010 transcript for my interview.

Yes they will ask for the 2011 transcripts as your interview date is after April 17th (tax day). If she has filed for an extension, they'll need to see that plus the 2010 returns. She could also include pay stubs from 2011 as well, and a copy of her 2011 w2 which she should have.

Also, all financial institutions are supposed to file/report and mail ALL tax information by January 31st. By law. That leaves people 2 1/2 months to actually file the taxes. Food for thought. It's highly unlikely that multiple financial institutions aren't meeting that deadline, as they're held accountable as well.

i know they are required by law to send financial docs to clients before January 31st and one of the financial institution has done that. however the reality on the ground is that she doesn't have all of them. and also it only takes one of the financial institution being late to delay her taxes been filed. she is trying really hard to get everything to her tax guy very soon so that we will be able to get our tax transcript.

we have already planned to do exactly what you proposed in the first part of your reply in case she files for an extension - bring a copy of her extension she filed, previous tax transcripts and last years tax stuff.

Jarta, there is still a few months between now and your interview so I am sure you will get the financial docs you need and she will be able to file and get the transcripts before your interview.Lets say for arguements sake she gets all the documents by Mid March and files and the taxes are accepted by first week in April and you request the transcripts and get it 5 days later, she should still be able to get the transcripts to you before your interview.

yeah.. she is currently trying really hard to get all those docs to her tax guy asap. due to the nature of her taxes, it cannot be filed electronically (at least that what was she told the last time) which means it will take longer for her taxes to be accepted and subsequently get her transcript. all the same, she is trying really hard to get her taxes in to the IRS by the last week of Feb.

mann this is a pain!!!! as it is, we have a complicated financial situation already. sigh

If she files prior to April 17th but hasn't received her transcripts, she can just give you a copy of the return itself and her W2s. If it's not filed, she can send you a draft of it as well along with those W2s.

I mentioned the law, only because she should really look into informing the IRS that these companies are not sending her the proper information. Companies get fined, albeit an extremely small fine...and sometimes the IRS ignores it. But sometimes it also motivates these businesses to get their act together.

I filed my 2011 return in the first part of February, processed in a couple of weeks. I ordered my 2011 transcript from the IRS on 1 March, received it in the mail on 10 March.

Good luck.
