I submitted a I-130 and have a NOA1 dated Nov 17. I submitted a stand alone I-130 but I saw that some people also doing IR-1/CR-1 submitted a I-485. Now I am questioning if I should have done the same? Will it matter in the end? OR will it speed things up?

You are not supposed to file I-485. You did the right thing. Please read the guides. People who filed I-485 are doing a different process than you.

Why would you file the 485? is the foreign spouse living in the USA?

You would not file a 485 unless the foreign spouse was living in the USA with the USC.

Please read the guides and inform yourself of the process.

As others have said, those who submitted an I-130 and and I-485 together are not going through the IR-1/CR-1 process, they are on a different process all together and completely irrelevant and unrelated to your situation.

You do appear lost. If your spouse is currently outside the USA, the I-485 is irrelevant to you. If in the USA now, yes, you should have filed both together.

I did follow the guide lines when I submitted...I read so many different horror stories about lost documents, papers on hold awaiting other forms...since my I-130 was last touched on Nov 17th I was worried that uscis may be holding it for other forms like K-3 visa etc etc...guess I am just anxious and gotta learn the art of patience. Thanks all.

This is normal, your petition is sitting in a queue waiting to be adjudicated by the USCIS. I'm not sure what the current processing times are for I-130 petitions in Vermont, but the typical wait is 5 months from NOA1.

Hello All again… I have another question…goes along with my screen name I guess

When I filled out the I-130 I left question # 22 it completely blank..

The second parts states:

If your relative is not eligible for adjustment of status he or she will apply for a visa abroad at the American consular post in :

I believe I should have put Havana - Cuba

Does anyone know what the worst case scenario would be here?
