filing spouse before daughter turns 13

Hi everyone, I just got the off the phone with BCIS and I really didn't get a straight answer. My question is for the N-400. I want to file to n400 and my step daughter turns 13 on Thursday. IF I mail it out on Wednesday is it going to still be the 750 for the fling fee or will it be double because she is 13 on Thursday or is it 750 because it went out and post dated before 13.

I don't understand are you filing for yourself? what does your stepdaughter have to do with the N400?

My step daughter came under her application and the visa are off by a digit. But when filing they said once she turns 13 it will be adding n400 fee i just to make sure if this is true

Only mother will file N400. Since the daughter is under 18 years old, as soon as mother naturalizes the child will become a USC automatically. All you have to do is get a passport for a child (mother goes with her with naturalization certificate). You can also file N600 after mother naturalizes, but it's not necessary.

So they changed it. I thought it was 13 years old. So there is no hurry but I want to get this done asap, so i can bring my mother in law here.

A minor could not file N400 anyways - read the instructions - 18 years or more to qualify. Child piggy-backs off of her mother in this case.

You can chose to OR not to file N600 - this came directly from the mouth of the office who interviewed me for my N400. Personally, am NOT filing N600 for my 16-year old.

If you opt not to file the N-600 to get a certificate of citizenship for the child, please do get a US passport for the child. The US passport will be proof of US citizenship. It's always a good idea to have at least one official document showing the child is a US citizen.

Get a passport card and--for $30 extra--a passport book. Put one of the two in the safest place you have access to, separate from the other one.

My passport book is in the safest place at home and my passport card is in the safe in my office. If you house burns down with every document in it, you need access to some proof of U.S. citizenship that was not inside your house.
