You, and every one else, needs to get away from "which is faster". Everything takes time. A few extra weeks here, another month there is meaningless in the context of a long and happy life together. You are not buying a car and waiting for delivery. You are getting married. That is one big life changing decision. Nobody is going to die if you are separated for a short while.

I agree. Focusing on which is faster is not the best way to approach the problem. I know some people who were married but applied for the K1 visa because they thought it was faster, but were later denied.

Just choose the course of action that is best for your relationship. The difference in processing time is not that big in the grand scheme of things.

That's exactly why they were denied. You must NOT be married if you file a K-1 visa. Let's not confuse the OP: K-1 is a fiance/é visa which means NOT married. CR-1 visa is a spouse visa which means you're married. By the way, ceremonies are considered marriage so becareful with showing photos of some sort of union ceremony. You may be denied a k-1 visa if you do that.

K-3 has been eliminated

Incorrect, the provision in the LIFE Act that created the K3 has not been repealed, therefore, the K3 is still officially on the books. With that being said, given current NVC procedures with regards to administrative closure of an I-129F filed in conjunction with an I-130 when said I-130 is on station at the NVC, the K3 is not a viable path.

thank u everyone this has all been so useful.....one question tho what does AP stand for?

Administrative Processing. Almost every male from Egypt will undergo name checks and extensive background checks. They want to make sure he's not, you know, a terrorist or a war criminal or affiliated with a mob. My fiance was on it for 2 weeks. But that's not the norm. There have been men on AP for 1 year or even more. On average, I'd say AP takes between 6 weeks to 3 months.
