Dallas area teacher suspended after a student sees nude art in a museum

Absolutely ridiculous! The school board should never have kowtowed to the upset parent. The parent should have not signed the consent form if they wished they child to be 'protected' from the museum exhibits. I agree - it isn't the subject matter that is obscene - it is the parent.

Since when is The Dallas Morning News the arbiter of what is good for public school fifth-graders?

Fisher Elementary is a local government school, and Sydney McGee is a government employee. In addition to teaching art, Ms. McGee acts in place of the parents, for the welfare of her students. The real parents of those fifth-graders can and should hold accountable the "educational" experiences that their children are exposed to.

There is a range of maturity among fifth-grade students, and there is a range of moral beliefs and standards among their parents. Frisco school officials need to gain the informed consent of the parents and be sensitive to their objections.
