Finally after 1 year I made my POE at the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge on February 3, 2012. Now to plan the big day. The Border Officials at the Queenston-Lewiston POE had no clue how to process the K1 as they told me they don't see very many of these Visa types. I waited 45 minutes to be seen. Customs also told me that I did not need to fill out the 3299 form to import my belonging into the US. Not sure if this was correct but I had the form filled out anyways. I wish everyone a safe journey to the US. Now for the rest of my journey to begin.

congrats!! 3299 is for unaccompanied baggage

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Congrats to you! I made my POE at the same place with my CR-1 visa back in October. I found, like you, that the border officials weren't familiar with processing the visa and I spent over an hour waiting. But I finally finished processing and was on my way.

I'm not familiar with the K-1 visa, but I would imagine that you got a stamp with the date of your POE on your visa. I would suggest looking at it to ensure it's correct. As I said, I POE'd on October 11, 2011. However, the date of the stamp was October 11, 2010. Unfortunately, it wasn't until I received my permanent green card that I noticed this, at which point I had to call USCIS to explain the error. This resulted in me having to complete an I-90 application to replace my green card (luckily, due to USCIS error, the $450 fee was waived). I just had my biometrics January 25 for the replacement card and am waiting for it to arrive. wacko.gif

So, as I said, just have a look to see the date is correct...it'll save you a whole lot of grief and frustration. Cheers!

Welcome! We made our POE on Saturday.

Wonderful feeling going in the first time together.

It was like waiting for christmas day once the passport arrived by DHL.

Best regards!
