After NOA2

Ok, I'm the petitioner, and I've read the guides and the flowchart but some of it I still have questions about what to do now. I have a decent idea of what to do but I need to fill in the blanks!

First off:

"*Two weeks after you receive the NOA2 you can contact the NVC to see if they have received your approved I-129F. You can contact them at 603 334-0700. " This is where I call to get my case number, correct? Do I need to call them or will the case number be on some paper they send me? I heard from someone that you actually have to apply for an interview date, so they don't automatically assign you one? Is this the time that you request an interview date or is this after you send back packet 3 with the police reports and medical?

"*This will be sent out within a week (typically less) from when the embassy processes the received petition. This package will include a checklist of items and paperwork that must be collected. Some will be sent back asap, and others will be sent back later or brought to the interview." This is packet 3 correct? Will I get anything in the mail or is it all him from here on out? I know I need to send another letter of intent, my letter from work, my paystubs etc. Is it necessary that I send my tax returns even with my paystubs? How many years back do I need and how do I get them if I don't have them anymore?

That's basically all my questions for now, I look forward to some answers that will make this more clear, thank you :3

The number you stated is correct to get your case number from the NVC, after you are connected, press 1, then 5 to skip the phone tree and go straight to a live operator (you may be waiting for an operator during the middle of the day).

With regard to the interview, the following is stated at the bottom of this link:

When you have gathered all documentation, complete and mail the DSL-1076 form to the U.S. Consulate General, Sydney. That office will contact you with your visa interview time. Please do not fax forms DS-230 Part I and DSL-1076, the originals must be mailed.

K1 interviews are not scheduled by the NVC, K1 interview scheduling varies from country to country.

Everything will go to your fiance at this point. Instead of sending tax returns, you can request tax transcripts online from the IRS and send those instead. You probably only need the most recent year but it's probably not a bad idea to go back 3 years (better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it).

For the first one, it can be more than 2 weeks, the times of processing change continuously depending on many factors, none of them in our control. NVC is the last stop before your case moves to the country where the interview happens, and yes, NVC will send you a written notice with case number; it is possible to gain some time by calling and tracking down your case. You are also correct that you 'request' an interview, by virtue of the embassy getting you forms and you replying to the requirements...more or less automatic.

On the second: yes, it is commonly known as packet 3 and it spells what they want to see at interview time. This is sent to the beneficiary in his/her country and it relates to what they want to see about him/her: birth certificate, police certificate, divorce papers if it applies, etc..not a very long list; it also lists some other papers you would need to provide. After this first communication, there is more about medical exams, etc. You will need to have tax papers, financial documentation proving you can support, etc (this is called the I-134). Usually prior year documentation is enough and depending on the specific Embassy some special requirements might exist. The Embassy web site usually has that information.

But, we aware it does not end there. Upon a visa granted and marriage happening, then there is the AOS-adjustment of status in which more paperwork and $$ (a bit over 1000) is needed. And then, 2 years later, ROC-removal of conditions..more paperwork and $$...

You can contact NVC on the phone number given to get the beneficiary's case number (it will begin with SYD).

The Sydney consulate will send your fiance an email (known as package 3) once they have the application. This email will ask him to send DS-156 part 1 right away, and a list of all the things that he needs to send to the consulate once he has them ready, including medical results, police certificate, I-134, copy of birth certificate, statement of readiness to be interviewed. But your fiance can get a head start by looking at what he will need (police certificate, medical etc). Then when he receives the package 3 email from Sydney he can send everything right away, including the DS156 and statement of readiness to be interviewed.

Once they receive everything they will email him a notice (known as package 4) which is the interview letter, and a lit of anything he needs to bring (for most people, if package 3 was complete, it will be passport, the Australia Post fiance visa receipt, and an Australia Post 3kg express post envelope). He will need to bring a copy of the interview letter to the interview.

Since the visa process varies by country, you should ask Sydney-specific questions in the Australia/NZ forum. Other consulates have a very different procedure.

Good luck!

PS if you want to see an up to date copy of package 3 from Sydney, PM me and I will send you the one I got in August last year.

Also Sydney doesn't require another letter of intent.

Sorry, I got something wrong in my first reply, they require DS-230 (part 1) sent right away, and the rest when ready to be interviewed:

DS-156K

DS-156

I-134

DSL-1076 (statement of readiness to be interviewed)

National police certificate

Medical exam results in sealed envelopes (some doctors in Australia will send this directly to the consulate not to your fiance)

Birth certificate

Two photographs (he will need more for the medical)

Here are the instructions for package 3:
