Danno, do you really not see the gross hypocrisy in the right's battle against tax funded aid for the 'have-nots' of society in spite of the Christian theme of charity and compassion, and then trying to compel all people to adopt the right-wing christian moral position on abortion by making it a criminal act! You want government to compel against behaviors that many surmise may violate Christ's laws and admonitions under penalty of civil law, yet you protest those charitable actions of government that directly fulfill many of Christ's direct teachings on our obligations to our fellow citizens!

In the first place Christians do way more to help the poor in this country and around the world than say the "Left-Wing".

now that said,

I have nothjing against Christians wanting to vote for tax increases if they believe the track record of success of these programs makes them worthwhile, I just can't find a place where Jesus does anything more than command believers to personally do it.

Don't base it on WWJD.... cuzz it ain't there... or at least you have not made your case with that angle.

Personally I would support some social safety-net but I don't do that as an act of Christianity, I just do it as danno the citizen.

If I want to touch the lives of people in hurt... there are way more productive ways to do it than use the hugely inefficient gov't method.

WHAT DOES david taking over sauls place as king have to do with the subject, ....am I missing something?

YOu should have put up the part where David sees BAthshiba bathing seduces her she has a baby and then moves her husband to the front line of battle that he might not return.

The lord sends someone to David to show him the error of his ways and he does this by telling David a story, King david passes judgment on the man in the story and then realizes "He is that man".

1The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. 2The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, 3but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.

There are other things of less importance. You must remember that He was omnipotent, and He could have made the devils simply go away; BUT HE CHOOSES TO SEND THEM INTO THE PIGS.

Then there is the curious story of the fig-tree, which always rather puzzled me. You remember what happened about the fig-tree. 'He was hungry; and seeing a fig-tree afar off having leaves, He came if haply He might find anything thereon; and when He came to it He found nothing but leaves, for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it: "No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever,"...and Peter...saith unto Him: "Master, behold the fig-tree which thou cursedst is withered away".' This is a very curious story, because it was not the right time of year for figs, and you really could not blame the tree. I cannot myself feel that either in the matter of wisdom or in the matter of virtue Christ stands quite as high as some other people known to history. I think I should put Buddha and Socrates above Him in those respects."
